How it Happened
- After PC grabbed the first point of the evening, Furman answered back with the next six to take a 6-1 lead. With the Paladins holding a 10-5 advantage, the hosts ripped off another seven straight, stretching the margin to 17-5 and putting the first frame out of reach.
- In the second set, the Paladins broke a 4-4 deadlock with an 8-2 stretch to open up a 12-6 advantage. The Blue Hose chipped away at the lead and closed the gap to two on several occasions, but Furman held off the rally to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
- Presbyterian used a 3-0 spurt early in the third set to take a 7-5 edge. Furman responded with a 6-0 run to go on top, 11-7. A 10-4 surge then helped the Blue Hose overtake the Paladins and grab a 17-15 lead. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the frame, with PC holding on, 25-22, to send the contest to a fourth set. Six of Cooke's 16 kills came in the third frame.
- An early 5-4 PC edge in the fourth set was erased by a 4-0 Furman run. In front 9-7, the Paladins rattled off eight straight points to expand their lead to 17-7. The Blue Hose put together runs of 5-0 and 6-1 to close the gap all the way to two, 23-21, but the Paladins withstood the charge to claim the set and the match.
