PC's Home Opener Spoiled by Phoenix

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19) to Elon in its 2021 home opener on Friday night at the Templeton Center.

- Rylee Moorhead tallied a match-high 10 kills, a new career-best, and 10 digs for her first collegiate double-double.
- Erin Cooke handed out a team-high 16 assists, with Kinsey Bailey adding 13 helpers.
- Anna Hewitt recorded a match-high 14 digs.
 
How it Happened
- Elon started off on the front foot, opening up a 6-2 advantage in the first set. With the Phoenix in front 13-10, Presbyterian rattled off four straight points to take its first lead of the evening, 14-13. A 4-1 spurt briefly put Elon back on top, 17-15, but the Blue Hose countered with a 5-0 run to regain a 20-17 advantage. The Phoenix bounced back, notching the next five straight points to claim the opening frame, 25-22.
- With the second frame even at 6-6, Elon used a 5-0 run to spark an 11-2 stretch, which put the visitors ahead 17-8. The Phoenix rode that momentum to a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
- Presbyterian raced out to a 9-3 advantage in the third set. A 6-1 spurt helped Elon trim the margin to one, 10-9. The Phoenix put together 5-0 and 6-0 runs to overtake the Blue Hose, 22-16. From there, PC could not get any closer than five, as Elon sealed the victory.
 
Up Next
The Blue Hose head to Atlanta next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11, for the GSU Invitational. PC opens the tournament with contests against Stetson and Alcorn State on Friday afternoon.
