CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team fell to the Campbell Camels on Thursday night inside Martin Stadium, 3-0. The Camels struck for an early goal and Presbyterian was unable to get back into the match.
FINAL SCORE: 3-0 Campbell
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-8-1, 0-1-1), Campbell (4-2-2, 2-0-0)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Campbell had the opening kick, and they didn't waste any time as in the 5
th minute they put one in that Presbyterian goalkeeper
Megan Serrano had no chance of stopping. The Blue Hose looked to build some momentum following the restart, as
Reyna Coston made a move around her defender to get the shot away, but it was saved by Campbell's keeper. The Camels were on the end of a dangerous corner, but
Emily LaBoon blocked the shot off the line to keep the deficit at one. Serrano was the next Blue Hose to stop a Camel as she made a diving save to her left to prevent a second goal. It wasn't long though until Campbell got a second goal in the 21
st minute to double their lead. Presbyterian earned themselves a corner with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but it was cleared before the Blue Hose could get to it.
Abby Spellings had a late chance for a goal, but the ball came in a little too quick and her header went wide.
Presbyterian kicked off the second half, but Campbell had a quick chance, but Serrano made an incredible save from four yards out to stop a third goal from crossing the line. Presbyterian earned a corner early in the half, but the Campbell keeper pushed it away before the Blue Hose could get a boot to it. Just as Presbyterian was applying pressure and building an attack, Campbell came down the field and bumbled in a loose ball to make it 3-0. The Blue Hose weren't going down without a fight as they fought their way forward for a corner, but once again Campbell cleared it. Presbyterian showed effort until the very end, but they were on the wrong side of a 3-0 final.
Coach Purcell's Thoughts:
"Campbell is a very good team and they played really well tonight. We didn't lose because of a lack of effort. Our team gives all they have every single game. I think we have to be smarter with the ball, but that doesn't take away from how hard we play. We look forward to our next game."
UP NEXT:
The Blue Hose will follow up with another home match on Sunday, September 26, as they welcome Longwood for a 1pm afternoon kick.
