Bracone Leads Balanced Scoring Attack in Victory over Bucs

CLINTON, S.C. – Behind four players in double figures, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team picked up their first Big South win, 68-58, on Wednesday night over Charleston Southern inside the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose were led by sophomore guard Maleia Bracone with 14 points, while freshman Paige Kindseth, junior Tionna Carter, and fifth-year senior Jade Compton added 12 points apiece.

Scoring the Game

- The Bucs jumped out to an early 10-4 edge over the opening five minutes in the evening's contest. PC erased the early CSU lead with a 9-2 run highlighted by a pair of threes from Compton to give PC the 13-12 edge with 2:58 to go in the opening stanza. Charleston Southern scored the quarter's next eight points before a 5-0 burst gave the Bucs a 20-18 edge after one. 
- The Blue Hose opened the second quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 27-21 lead with 7:46 to play in the first half. After a quick four points from CSU, PC went on a 12-4 run to take its largest lead of the first half at 39-29 with 3:58 to go in the half. Charleston Southern closed the half scoring seven of the final eight points to cut the Blue Hose advantage down to four, 40-36 at the intermission. 
- In a low-scoring third quarter, PC jumped out to an eight-point edge with a 6-2 run led by Tionna Carter scoring all six points to give the Blue Hose a 46-38 lead with 7:15 to go in the stanza. The two teams traded points down the stretch with CSU scoring six of the final 11 in the quarter to give PC the 51-44 lead heading to the final 10 minutes. 
- CSU scored the first four of the quarter before a 13-1 spurt from PC pushed the advantage out to 64-49 with 4:21 to go. CSU used a 9-2 run down the stretch to cut it to an eight-point margin but the Blue Hose got a pair of free throws late to make it a 68-58 final score. 

Players of the Game
- Maleia Bracone led the way for Presbyterian with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Tionna Carter, Jade Compton, and Paige Kindseth added 12 points apiece. Compton also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Nyah Willis dished out a team-best six assists. Skylar Baltezegar led Charleston Southern with 14 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Janaia Fargo added 12 points for CSU. Sharita Godfrey had eight assists to lead the way for the Bucs. 

Stats of the Game
- Presbyterian shot 23-of-64 (35.9%), while Charleston Southern posted a 23-of-57 (40.4%) shooting line on Wednesday night. PC made eight threes in the contest while the Bucs only connected on three from beyond the arc. The Blue Hose made 14-of-17 from the free-throw line as Charleston Southern was 9-of-14 at the charity stripe. PC held a 42-26 edge on the glass including an 11-4 advantage on the offensive glass. CSU held a 30-24 edge in the paint. PC and CSU both dished out 16 assists. 


Notables

- Bracone matched her season-high with 14 points while pulling down a season-high nine rebounds. 
- Paige Kindseth totaled a career-high with 12 points as it marks her fourth game in double-figures this season. 
- Jade Compton totaled her second double-double of the season and it was also her third straight game with 10+ rebounds.
- As a team, PC connected on eight threes marking the third time this year the Blue Hose have made eight in a game. 
- PC improved to 6-1 on the year when scoring 60+ points. The Blue Hose also jumped to 4-2 in games they hold opponents below 60 points.
- Presbyterian is now 5-2 in games it has outrebounded its opponents.
