Blue Hose Notch First Win of Spring on Monday

Clinton, S.C.. –  The Presbyterian College women's tennis team recorded its first victory of the 2022 spring season on Monday with a dominating 7-0 result over Lander at the Templeton Tennis Courts.

" Really good days for the team. They played very well and committed to staying confident in what we have been training. Looking forward to getting back on court later this week to compete again Saturday at home." commented head coach Joel Roberts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC got out to a quick start with seniors Beth Lacey and Jessica Leeman recording a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to give the Blue Hose the early advantage. Sophomore Lucianna Piedra and freshman Claudia Sanchez secured the doubles point for the Blue Hose with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot.
- Sophomore Alexa Wilson and senior Zeba Jamal totaled a 6-4 win at the top doubles spot as well after PC clinched the doubles point.
- Leeman made quick work at No. 1 singles on Monday with a 6-3, 6-3 win to improve the match score to 2-0.
- The Blue Hose continued their strong play by Lacey grabbing a straight-set win at No. 5 singles before her countrymate Wilson earned the win at No. 4 singles to secure the match for Presbyterian.
- In her collegiate debut, freshman Valentina De Sousa earned a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 6 singles to PC the 5-0 lead.
- Jamal used three-sets to improve the Blue Hose lead to 6-0 before Sanchez locked up the 7-0 victory for the Blue Hose on Monday afternoon
 
NOTES
- De Sousa earned her first collegiate win in her first match of her career on Monday.

UP NEXT
-  The Blue Hose are back in action on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. for a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey from the Templeton Tennis Courts.
