Blue Hose Edged in Final Seconds by Campbell

CLINTON, S.C. – Faith Price connected on a three with 2.7 seconds to play to push Campbell past the Presbyterian College women's basketball team on Wednesday night by the score of 58-55 at the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose were led by fifth-year senior Jade Compton with 18 points, while Tionna Carter added 15 points. Maleia Bracone recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Scoring the Game

- Campbell opened the contest fast with an 11-2 run over the first four minutes to jump on the Blue Hose. Presbyterian answered with a 6-3 burst to cut the Campbell advantage to six, 14-8 with 3:20 to play. PC chipped away at it down the stretch cutting the lead down to three before a late layup from the Fighting Camels made it 18-13 after one.
- The second quarter was a low-scoring frame as the Camels pushed the lead to eight, 21-13, and were able to answer each PC run. The Blue Hose pushed the deficit down to five, 26-21 with Maleia Bracone scoring back-to-back shots in the stretch. Campbell scored the final four points of the quarter to take a nine-point lead to the half at 30-21. 
- PC came out of the halftime break fast with an 8-3 run to cut the Fighting Camels lead to 33-29 with 4:03 to play in the third quarter. The two teams went back and forth before Campbell pushed it to an eight-point edge at 40-32 with 1:39 to play in the quarter. Carter helped lead the Blue Hose down the stretch with four straight points to make it 42-36 as we moved to the fourth.
- After an early Carter layup, the guests extended the lead to nine, 47-38 with 6:48 to play in regulation. PC used a 9-4 run to cut the deficit down to four, 51-47 with 4:08 to play after Compton connected on a three followed by a jumper. Campbell responded with four quick points to make it 55-47 as we headed down the stretch. Presbyterian had one final push on Wednesday scoring eight unanswered to even the game at 55 but a three with 2.7 seconds left gave the guests the three-point victory. 

Players of the Game
- Jade Compton led all scorers with 18 points as she made 8-of-15 field goals and pulled down seven rebounds. Tionna Carter added 15 points, while Maleia Bracone had 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the 2021-22 season. Nyah Willis led the Blue Hose with five assists. Faith Price paced Campbell with 17 points as Taya Bolden added 12 points. Brittany Staves added 11 points and Svenia Nurenberg rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Fighting Camels with 10. Bolden and Staves led the guests on the glass with eight boards apiece. Luana Serranho led the team with six helpers. 

Stats of the Game
- Campbell shot 39.6% (21-of-53) from the floor while limiting the Blue Hose to 37.3% (19-of-51) from the field. The Camels connected on nine threes compared to four from Presbyterian. The Blue Hose made 13-of-20 at the line and Campbell was 7-of-14 at the charity stripe. Presbyterian held the rebounding advantage 40-31, while Campbell had a slight edge in the paint by the count of 24-22. 


Notables

- Bracone recorded her second career double-double on Wednesday with 13 points and a career-tying 10 rebounds. It's the fifth double-double for the Blue Hose this season as Nyah Willis and Jade Compton each has two apiece.
- Carter totaled a season-high 15 points for her eighth double-figure scoring performance in her last nine games. She's averaging 12.1 ppg in league play.
- With her 18 points tonight, Compton moves into a tie for ninth in the Blue Hose Career DI record book for points with 761 in her time for Presbyterian. She tied Aianna Kelly for ninth on Wednesday.

Up Next
- PC is back home on Saturday at 2 p.m. to host High Point in game one of a doubleheader for the Blue Hose basketball programs. The men's team is set to host UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. on the back half of the doubleheader from Templeton.
