Volleyball Falters at Winthrop on Thursday Night

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team fell on Thursday night to host Winthrop 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 12-25) at Winthrop Coliseum. Kasey Battle led the Blue Hose offense with six kills, while junior setter Kinsey Bailey tallied 12 assists in the match.

How it Happened
- Winthrop jumped out to the early 7-0 advantage in the opening set which forced the Blue Hose into a timeout during that stretch. The Eagles were able to stretch the advantage to 9-3 before a 5-1 burst allowed the Blue Hose to cut the margin to two, 10-8. Winthrop used a 7-3 run to stretch the lead to 17-11 and lead PC to call its second timeout of the set. After the timeout, PC cut the deficit to 20-15 before the Eagles scored five of the final six points in the set to take the set 25-16.
- Similar to set one, the Eagles raced out to an 8-3 lead in the second set before the Blue Hose quickly tied it at nine with a 6-1 burst to force the hosts to call timeout. Winthrop responded with a 5-1 burst to take a 14-10 lead. PC and Winthrop traded bursts with the Blue Hose cutting the hosts lead to 19-18 late in the second set. Winthrop scored five of the next seven points en route to a 25-21 set two win and a 2-0 lead in Thursday night's match.
- PC jumped out to the early lead in set three with three of the first four points before seven unanswered points from the Eagles forced PC to call its first timeout of the set. Winthrop extended the lead to 15-5 in set three before the Blue Hose scored four of the next five to cut the margin to 16-9. The hosts closed on a 9-3 run to take the set 25-12 and the match in straight sets on Thursday night.
 
Notables
- Freshman Anna Baranski totaled her sixth match with 10+ digs as she recorded 10 digs and nine assists. Baranski also added a pair of kill in the match.
- Hailey Grocholski had four kills on 11 swings with a .364 hitting percentage.
- Battle led the offense with six kills along with Rylee Moorhead adding five kills.
- Moorhead had a team-high three aces in the match.
- Bailey led the team with 12 assists as she also added five digs.
