Blue Hose Notch 6-1 Win at Newberry

Newberry, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team recorded its first victory of the 2022-23 dual season on Wednesday as the Blue Hose picked up a 6-1 win over host Newberry at the Oakland Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose got the early advantage as the pair of Lucianna Piedra/Claudia Sanchez took a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles before the doubles point was clinched by Valentina De Sousa/McKenzie Davis with a 6-4 victory at the No.2 spot.
- PC swept doubles on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-6 (9-7) victory at the No. 3 spot as Claire Giddings/Madison Dennett started for the Blue Hose at that spot in the lineup card.
- PC carried the momentum into singles as Davis and Dennett both got straight-set wins to push the Blue Hose lead out to 3-0.
- The Blue Hose clinched the match on Wednesday when Piedra earned a straight-set win of her own at the No. 2 singles spot.
- Sanchez and De Sousa both added three-set wins while the Wolves grabbed a win at No. 5 singles to lead to the 6-1 final.
 
NOTABLES
-  Both McKenzie Davis and Claire Giddings competed in their first collegiate duals on Wednesday afternoon for the Blue Hose.
- Wednesday's match is the first dual the Blue Hose have competed in during the fall since 2014 when PC defeated Brevard 6-1 on Oct. 12, 2014.
- The Blue Hose notched a season-opening win for the first time since 2018 when PC defeated N.C. Central 7-0 on Jan. 27.

UP NEXT
- Presbyterian wraps up its fall slate beginning on October 29th with the Western Carolina Invitational in Cullowhee. The Blue Hose were originally slated to begin the fall schedule on September 10th in Cullowhee before weather postponed it to late October.
