Women’s Soccer’s Postponed Date with Charleston Southern All Set for Tuesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – It may have taken an extra 72 hours for the Presbyterian College women's soccer team to properly take part in their fourth Big South Conference matchup due to weekend complications from Hurricane Ian passing through, although that delay will come to fruition on Tuesday evening at Martin Stadium where the Blue Hose go head-to-head with Charleston Southern for their first bout in a six-day period.

After nearly taking at least a draw from USC Upstate in their previous endeavor, PC will continue what's been a fairly even series against the Buccaneers tomorrow night at 7:00, finding the next chapter in a feud that is all tied up over the past six meetings at three wins apiece. Head coach Brian Purcell's unit aims for a dose of redemption after a 2-0 decision in Charleston favored the Bucs in 2021, with the action on hand courtesy of ESPN+.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 4
WHERE: Edens Field at Martin Stadium (Clinton, S.C.)
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
RECORDS: Presbyterian (0-8-3, 0-2-1 Big South) – Charleston Southern (4-6-1, 2-1 Big South)

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
One of five programs inside the Big South who have already gathered a pair of W's in the early stages of league territory, the Buccaneers will visit Clinton on Tuesday arguably in the middle of their most consistent stretch of the fall, shutting out both USC Upstate and UNC Asheville four days apart for a combined margin of 4-0 to counter a 5-2 loss to Gardner-Webb that opened conference play.

The fifth time out of 11 matches that the Bucs have held the other side to one goal or less in the aforementioned win over UNC Asheville, CSU coasted to the finish line on their home turf, outshooting the Bulldogs by 10 while scoring once in each half to put the contest away. Attacker Jenea Knight currently ranks third in the Big South with 14 total points to her credit (five goals, four assists), while keeper Sara Curtis has held four team scoreless over an entire 90-minute clip, saving 44 shots in the process.

Having found the back of the net six times in their last three appearances, Charleston Southern places in a tie for second place in the conference with 25 goals (albeit still 19 behind Big South leader Gardner-Webb, who's responsible for their only loss inside the league). The bulk of CSU's best performances on the year have been at their own backyard, boasting only a single win away from Charleston, which coincidentally was at the venue where PC recently came up short against USC Upstate.

LAST TIME OUT:
In what was mostly a solid effort by the Blue Hose in the short drive to Spartanburg last Wednesday, the one-goal setback against the Spartans proved to be a match defined by a single mistake from an otherwise strong showing by the Presbyterian D, allowing an early strike 22 minutes in that eventually ended up being the difference.

Claiming a victory on six occasions against the Buccaneers since joining the Big South in the late 2000's, coach Purcell's core has claimed four of those decisions when playing at home, aiming to right the ship in league play and knock off CSU for the third time in the last four years.
