Six Presbyterian Players Capture All-Big South Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Six members of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose men's soccer team earned Big South honors, as announced by the league office on Friday.

“I am excited for our six student-athletes to be recognized with all-conference awards,” Presbyterian coach Jonathan Potter said. “Each of these young men have made significant contributions both on and off the field this year. These awards reflect the overall team performance this season including a program record ten wins, an undefeated home record, and a trip to the Big South Semifinals. We are proud of this team and still have much to play for this postseason.”

BIG SOUTH HONORS
Junior midfielder Lorenzo Nagy was named First Team All-Big South. Senior forward Nacho Gallego and junior midfielder Carson Griffith were both Second Team All-Big South selections. Sophomore forward Nile Nguidjol was named Honorable Mention All-Big South. Freshman goalkeeper Leo Stritter garnered Big South All-Freshman team honors. Junior midfielder Niklas Hoener was named to the Big South All-Academic team.

NAGY A FIRST-TEAM ALL-BIG SOUTH SELECTION
Nagy becomes the fourth player in the program’s history named First Team All-Big South. The Kecskemet, Hungary native has scored a Big South leading four game-winning goals this season. Nagy is one of the main engines that drive a Blue Hose offensive attack which ranks amongst the highest-scoring teams in the league.

GALLEGO AND GRIFFITH VOTED SECOND-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE 
Gallego and Griffith are the tenth and eleventh different players in the program’s history to garner Second Team All-Big South honors. Both of these players have played integral roles in helping the Blue Hose become one of the top offensive teams in the Big South.

Gallego has scored a team-leading five goals this season. He scored goals against Longwood, UNC Asheville, and Winthrop in Big South play. On October 24, the Madrid, Spain native claimed Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. 

Griffith also played a significant role in helping the Blue Hose defense record eight shutouts this season. The Gastonia, North Carolina native has collected two assists on the season while anchoring the Blue Hose midfield.

NGUIDJOL EARNED ALL-BIG SOUTH ACCOLADES FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR
Nguidjol was named Honorable Mention All-Big South Conference, which marks the second straight year he has claimed all-league honors after being voted to the Big South All-Freshman team last season.

The Los Angeles, California native has played a major role on one of the Big South’s highest-scoring teams. In Presbyterian’s win over Winthrop which clinched a spot in the Big South Tournament for the Blue Hose, he scored the game-winning goal. He has scored three goals while dishing out a team-leading

STRITTER SELECTED FOR THE BIG SOUTH ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Stritter is the twelfth player in Presbyterian men’s soccer history to garner Big South All-Freshman team honors.

The Eschborn, Germany anchors a Blue Hose defense that has recorded eight shutouts while limiting 11 foes to a goal or less. He captured the Big South Freshman of the Week award three times: September 6, September 12, and October 24. Stritter collected at least five saves in a game five times including a season-high seven saves against Longwood.

HOENER EXCELS ON AND OFF THE PITCH
Hoener, who has played a major role in the Blue Hose offensive attack and stout defense in the midfield, earned Big South All-Academic team honors. The junior midfielder has a 3.54 GPA as a Business Management major. He has been named to the Dean’s List twice and to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll as well. 

The Bielefeld, Germany native was a Second Team All-Big South selection last season. This year, he has dished out two assists. 

BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS
Presbyterian returns to action against Campbell on the road in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament this Sunday, November 6 at 6 p.m.
