CLINTON, S.C. – Projected for four all-conference selections prior to the beginning of the season via Phil Steele / DraftScout, the Presbyterian College football team exceeded that figure on Monday morning with the announcement of five players gaining all-PFL membership throughout an extremely deep and competitive league. With seven performers in total accomplishing at least an honorable mention from the conference itself two weeks ago, head coach
Steve Englehart's unit boasts one or more competitor on all four squads from the Phil Steel publication as the program continues to trend upwards.
A Hero Sports FCS Freshman All-American and Pioneer Football League second-teamer, rookie wideout
Dominic Kibby earns a first-team selection from Phil Steele at the top of the week, followed closely by PC's leading tackler
Alex Herriott roaming the second-team lineup. Another piece of Presbyterian's vaunted linebacker core,
Campbell Watson, scooped up a third-team prize on Monday, while senior offensive lineman
Keith Boyd and sophomore cornerback A.J. Seay finished out the list on the fourth-team ballot.
Arguably the PFL's most efficient receiver – going for numerous league-highs despite his youth – Kibby grabs another impressive accolade to his freshman resume with the aforementioned first-team honor, carrying the torch in the conference with 796 receiving yards on the year. Not to mention 975 all-purpose yards when factoring in kick-return responsibilities, the rookie led the way in the PFL in yards per game (72) and yards per catch (19), the only player in the 11-team division to have posted four separate triple-digit outings through the air. Racking up the second-highest number of touchdowns (7) among all players at all positions across the conference, Kibby's dynamic freshman stint will be a hard act to follow for future Presbyterian newbies, producing the fourth-most receiving yards over a single season by any PC wideout since the school's inception to the NCAA Division I level in 2007. The FCS National Freshman of the Week following an exceptional outing against Dayton on November 5 (seven catches for 212 yards and a trifecta of TD's from long-distance), the Catonsville, Maryland local ended his debut semester with the second-highest yardage per catch average in PC's 15-year D-I history.
Expanding upon a splendid freshman campaign a year ago to put forth an even more daunting stat-line as a sophomore, Herriott brings home a second-team distinction from the Phil Steele outlet after honing in for back-to-back seasons as Presbyterian's leading stopper. Concluding the 11-game slate with 93 tackles (tied for fourth in the league with 32 more than when he was a rookie), the LB started every contest which translated to 53 solo stops, only bested by Morehead State's Cooper Krezek in that category around the PFL. Collecting nearly nine tackles per outing beside seven that occurred behind the line of scrimmage, Herriott moved his career sack total to seven with four more in '22, landing eight tackles or more against seven different opponents. Highlighted by a career-best 16 hits against Valparaiso on October 8 (11 by his lonesome), the Hanahan native has gathered a total of 154 tackles over his two seasons with the program, poised for an even brighter future approaching his upperclassman tenure.
No defender on the Presbyterian crew posted more tackles for a loss or a higher yardage reversal in sacks than Watson, a Phil Steele third-teamer whose 44 stops slide in at fifth on the roster. Just one behind edge rusher
Malek Horlback for team-high honors at four quarterback pressures, the redshirt-junior met the opponent in the backfield eight times over the duration of the season for minus 41 yards, starting every contest en route to a quartet of sacks and a couple of pass breakups for good measure. Exploding for 11 tackles (four behind the scrimmage line) and a forced fumble at Morehead State on the first day of October, the Fayetteville, North Carolina product's transition to the defensive side of the field turned into a profitable endeavor, tallying at least one TFL in all but one bout over a six-game stretch lasting over a full month.
Primarily anchoring the right guard spot on the Blue Hose offensive line, Boyd earned a fourth-team categorization this afternoon thanks to 11 starts as a preseason all-leaguer. Next to center
Patch Bennett as the two PC o-linemen to have gained a starting role in each contest this fall, Boyd was a consistent presence to a Presbyterian offense that gained nearly 3,300 total yards (300 per game). Hailing from Chester, South Carolina, the fourth-year leader aided coach Englehart's club to 956 rushing yards over his final stretch in Clinton. Boyd has proven to be just as impressive of a student through his time at PC, landing an Academic Honor Roll membership from the conference on two occasions beside a 3.56 history major grade-point average.
The fifth and final PC standout to be recognized with an all-league plaudit, Seay's fourth-team nod comes after a second-year boost in production that equaled a team-high seven passes defensed and 38 tackles overall while in the secondary. Starting eight matchups after battling an early-season injury, Seay saw his role increase as the schedule progressed into PFL territory, putting together a career-high seven stops against eventual regular season champion St. Thomas at Bailey Memorial on October 22. A native of Decatur, Georgia, the sophomore recorded two interceptions on the year (both against conference foes), the second of which he returned 76 yards of a touchdown in Presbyterian's home finale versus Dayton in early November.
