Back-to-Back: Sjökvist Nets Second Straight Freshman of the Week Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time in as many weeks, freshman Tilda Sjökvist has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week for games played December 5th-11th, as announced by the league office on Monday.

UNC Asheville's McKinley Brooks-Sumpter was named Player of the Week as Sjökvist took home freshman honors.

The Huskvarna, Sweden native filled the stat sheet in the Blue Hose lone contest last week at Florida with eight points, four assists, two rebounds, and a steal in 28 minutes in Gainesville.

Sjökvist connected on three field goals, including a pair of three-pointers against the Gators.

On the season, Sjökvist sits fourth in the league in assists per game (3.4) and is fifth in assist/turnover ratio (0.9) through the Blue Hose first nine games of the 2022-23 season.

She leads the Blue Hose on the season in assists (31), is tops in steals (12), is second in threes (11), and sits third in points (65) thus far in the young season.

Sjökvist is the first Blue Hose to receive back-to-back Freshman of the Week honors from the Big South since Taylor Petty as Petty went back-to-back on Jan.4 & 11, 2016. She becomes the fourth Blue Hose to accomplish this feat in the program's DI history.

The Blue Hose hit the road on Thursday night for the final time in non-conference with a 6 p.m. tipoff against Florida State in Tallahassee on ACC Network.
