Roberts Inks Nikolaeva to 2023 Roster; Adds Two to 23-24 Signing Class

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College and head women's tennis coach Joel Roberts have announced the addition of three student-athletes to the women's tennis program. Varvara Nikolaeva (Suffolk, Va.) is set to join the program for the spring 2023 season while Mathilde Delaney (Beaconsfield, Canada) and M.C. Dailey (Clinton, S.C.) will both join the Blue Hose program for the 2023-24 season.

"I couldn't be more excited to add all three of these players to the program. All of them will add tremendous value to our program and the Blue Hose family," commented Roberts.

Varvara Nikolaeva – 5-6 – Suffolk, Va. – Middle school of general education no. 8" of c. d. Mytishchi of Moscow Region
Prior to PC: She comes to Presbyterian after spending time in Russia at Municipal Budget Education Institution in Moscow…. She's won and been a finalist of multiple USTA tournaments… off the
court, she won literature essay contest in 2017 and was a finalist in European math contest in 2016…

Personal: She chose to come to Presbyterian because of the tennis program… she intends to major in psychology while at Presbyterian…

Coach Roberts on Varvara: "I am very happy that Varvara will be joining us in the spring. We needed another player and I think we found the perfect fit in Varvara to join us mid-year and help us in the spring. She is a versatile player who is extremely excited to find a home for January and we cannot wait to get her here."

Mathilde Delaney – 5-5 – Beaconsfield, Canada. – Collège de Montréal
Prior to PC: Qualified for nationals twice while at Collège de Montréal in her High School career… was the indoor provincial championships U16 2022 doubles winner… off the court, she earned the excellence award for 4.0 GPA three straight years…

Personal: She decided to come to PC because of her official visit that convinced her. She loved the coach and well as the team. In addition, the college offers a very interesting academic program with a small ratio of students per classroom…. She intends to major in biology looking to get into pre-med field…

Coach Roberts on Mathilde: "Mathilde is a fantastic player. She is super versatile and will add a different dynamic to our team. She brings a lot of variety and we cannot wait to get her here in August."

M.C. Dailey – 5-4 – Clinton, S.C. – Clinton High School
Prior to PC: Was four-time varsity captain while at Clinton High School… earned team MVP four straight years during her high school career…  earned All-Region honors her entire high school career… 4x Region Player of the Year and All-State honoree… Invited to the SCHSL State Singles Invitational Tournament… earned the sportsmanship award at the tournament in 2020 and fourth place in singles in 2021… off the court, was involved in countless activities including Clinton HS Youth in government club, Clinton High School Health Occupations Students of America Club, Student Council, National Honor Society and countless more…

Personal: She chose to come to Presbyterian College because of the tennis program as she was able to connect with the coaches and current players. She was additionally able to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, course offerings and connection to her family/ancestors… she is currently undecided on a major and is looking at pre-pharmacy and ROTC as options…

Coach Roberts on M.C.: "MC is a great player and person. She is such a hard worker and I cannot wait to see her keep developing when she gets into our program. She has a lot of ties to PC and I'm so glad she decided to be a Blue hose. I cannot wait to get her here in August."
