CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College head football coach Steve Englehart has announced the addition of five members to his staff.
Aaron Archie joins the staff and will work with the linebackers as Keith Emery is coming to Clinton and will lead the defensive line. Chad Veccharella is joining the Blue Hose staff and will coach the outside linebackers.
Nolan Genovese is set to lead the wideouts and will be Presbyterian's pass game coordinator, while Tommy Crayton rounds out the additions as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Linebackers Aaron Archie
The Blue Hose new linebackers coach comes to Presbyterian after spending four years at Florida Tech in the roles of Co-Defensive Coordinator, inside linebackers, defensive assistant/linebackers and defensive line. He got his start in coaching at Indiana State primarily working with the linebackers.
In his last coaching stop at Florida Tech, Archie led the inside linebackers and defensive line from 2018-20 as he led the inside linebackers room and coordinated the teams run defense during those seasons. He developed talent and knowledge of the inside linebackers and daily film study and drill work. He collaborated with the co-defensive coordinator on weekly gameplan and in-game adjustments. He coached an All-GSC Linebacker in Evan Thompson.
He was assistant linebackers coach in 2017-18 as he led the linebacker room for both inside and outside linebackers. He led the defensive line room in the spring of 2019. He helped coordinate pass defense which allowed 163.9 yards per game. He coached All-GSC Linebacker JT Hassell who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns.
Prior to his time at Florida Tech, he spent four years as a defensive assistant working with the linebackers at Indiana State. He worked detecting offensive run tendencies in the press box during games and assisted with in-game adjustments and controlled substitutions. He organized and coached the scout teams for offense and special teams. He helped lead the team to first playoff berth in 30 years. He coached two all-americans, four All-MVFC and two all-newcomer MVFC.
In his playing career, he played four years at linebacker at Indiana State and totaled 428 tackles which was a new Indiana State school record, also by being named an all-league player during each of his four seasons. He was a two-year team captain. He finished his career for the Sycamores in 2012, led the team with 10 TFL's, four PBU, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble. He was named to first-team All-MVFC in 2011 & 2012. Archie was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team as a redshirt freshman in 2009 and was also an All-MVFC First -Team selection at linebacker as he was an All-American in the 2012 season.
Defensive Line Keith Emery
Emery joins the Blue Hose family after spending the last three seasons coaching defensive line at Myers Park and prior to that working at Providence Day School working with the linebackers. He spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Western New England University as the school first full-time head coach. Prior to Western New England, Emery spent time on the staff at Johns Hopkins University. He got his coaching start at Stafford High School, Enfield High School and Kenyon College beginning in 1994.
He totaled 86 wins over his time at Western New England where he spent time coordinating offensive, defensive and special teams' units. Emery spent time coaching the defensive backs, outside linebackers and quarterbacks in particular throughout his head coaching time. He was named the New England Football Conference Coach of the Year twice and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston New England D3 Coach of the Year in 2015.
He was a two-time New England Football Conference Boyd Division Coach of the Year along with the New England football Writers D2/D3 Coach of the Year. The teams he coached were ranked in the top seven in New England five times while participating in the NCAA Playoffs four times. He coached six CoSida Academic All-Americans.
Prior to joining the Western New England staff, Emery served as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., for seven seasons. He was the defensive coordinator the last four years and associate head coach in 2004.
Emery was selected the AFCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2004 and named to the "Hot Coaches" list by American Football Monthly. In his final season at John Hopkins, the Blue Jays posted a 9-2 record, shared their third straight Centennial Conference (CC) Championship, and won the ECAC Division III Southeast crown with a 26-23 victory over Waynesburg (Pa.) College.
Before arriving at Johns Hopkins, Emery served as an assistant football coach working with the defensive line at Kenyon College in Ohio for two seasons.
Outside Linebackers Chad Veccharella
Veccharella comes to PC after spending the past five seasons working in various roles on the defensive side of the ball at Keiser University.
In 2017 he started as the school's outside linebackers' coach as he worked to help build the program from a start up to 150-man roster. He helped coordinate the positional meetings, broke down and analyzed film for the defensive staff. He helped design all the football team graphics including signing day and commit graphics. He spent the 2018 season working with the corners and special teams as he continued to break down defensive film.
Veccharella in 2019 began working with the linebackers while continuing to work with special teams and coordinated kickoffs. During those three seasons, Keiser totaled 24 wins including three conference titles. In 2020, the defense was fourth in the nation in scoring defense and total defense per game while ranking sixth in opponents third down conversions.
In 2021, the defense ranked sixth in sacks and 15th in scoring defense. He's coached three all-conference first team linebackers and the conference player of the year during his three seasons with the linebackers.
During his playing career he played in all 43 games as a linebacker at Saint Joseph's College. He totaled 28.5 tackles for loss and was a first-team honoree by the conference. He was voted to the leadership council by his coaches and was selected a captain during his senior year.
Wide Receivers & Pass Game Coordinator Nolan Genovese
Genovese comes to PC after spending the last season as the wideouts coach at Gannon University. Prior to his time at Gannon, he spent three years as the offensive coordinator at Dodge City Community College. Genovese got his coaching career going at Middle Tennessee where he spent three years as an offensive graduate assistant, coaching the inside wide receivers.
During his time at Gannon, he was in charge of all prep for the wideouts and assisted in creation and implementation of weekly game plan. He was also in charge of all football operations.
At Dodge City, he was responsible for the implementation and executing of the offensive schemes and all offensive practice and game plans. He directly coached the quarterbacks and wide receivers. He coached DaQuan Bailey-Brown who was second team NJCAA All-American Wideout and first team ALL KJCCC. Brown was also named the 2019 offensive player of the year.
During his time at Middle Tennessee, he was a graduate assistant that worked mainly with the inside wide receivers in Murfreesboro. In 2017 he coached the No. 2 receiving duo in the nation that combined for 386 catches. The team in 2017 also was Camellia Bowl Champions. In 2018, the Blue Raiders were 8-6 including 7-2 in CUSA which netted them a division championship and they went onto win the Championship in CUSA. He had the teams two leading receivers in 2018 in Ty Lee (67 rec./828 yards/seven touchdowns) and Patrick Smith (54 rec./526 yards/6 touchdowns).
In his playing career at Middle Tennessee, he was a member of two bowl teams in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2013 and the Bahamas Bowl following the 2015 season.
Offensive Line & Run Game Coordinator Tommy Crayton
Tommy Crayton enters his first season at PC as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator. He spent last three seasons at Arkansas Tech University as the Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
He spent the 2018 season as an offensive graduate assistant coach at Texas State, working with the offensive line after his second stent at Southeastern Oklahoma State as the Offensive Line Coach.
Crayton spent the 2017 season at Florida Institute of Technology. He also worked with special teams. Crayton went to Florida Tech after coaching the offensive line at Southeastern Oklahoma in 2016.
Before his first stint at Southeastern Oklahoma State he coached and assisted at MacMurray College. He began his coaching career at his alma mater on the defensive staff at Midland University.
A native of Austin Texas, Crayton played two years at Independence Community College before moving on to Midland University. He earned a bachelor's degree in human performance sports management at Midland University and a master's degree in sports studies and athletic administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Crayton and his wife Mercedes, have one son Christopher, and reside in Fountain Inn, S.C.
