11th Inning Singles Propel Blue Hose to Series Win

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Presbyterian College baseball team used a pair of 11th inning RBI singles to propel them to a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Harmon Stadium. Chase Hughes and Jack Gorman had the RBI base hits and Luke Matthews tossed 3.2 scoreless innings to earn the series win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose opened the scoring in the third with an RBI double off the bat of Eric Toth before an RBI single from Dalton Reeves gave PC the 2-0 lead.
- PC added a run in the fourth via Brody Fahr's sacrifice fly to push the advantage to 3-0. 
- The Ospreys got on the board with an RBI single in the fifth to cut the guests' advantage to 3-1 after five frames. 
- North Florida picked up a run in the seventh via a sacrifice fly to cut the Presbyterian lead to 3-2 thru seven innings.
- UNF evened it up in the eighth with a sac fly to tie the game at three heading to the ninth inning.
- We remained tied until the 11th when Hughes and Gorman had a pair of RBI singles to push PC ahead and Matthews slammed the door shut to earn the Blue Hose a 5-3 series win. 

NOTABLES
- Dalton Reeves led the offense with three hits, while Chase Hughes and Chris Veach added two hits apiece. 
- Daniel Eagen was impressive in his collegiate debut on Sunday with seven strikeouts over five innings as the Fuquay-Varina native allowed just one run in his debut appearance. 
- Freshman Jack Gorman finished the weekend with a team-high .364 (four-for-11) weekend as he added a base hit with an RBI in the 11th.
- Hughes recorded a team-high four runs knocked in during the series with two hits and an RBI on Sunday afternoon.
- Luke Matthews improved on Friday's performance with a career-high 3.2 scoreless innings scattering three hits in recording his second win of the year. 
- Eric Toth, Veach, Gorman, and Hughes each take a three-game hit streak out of the weekend to lead the Blue Hose. 
- Sunday was Presbyterian's first extra-inning win since May 15, 2021, when the Blue Hose defeated High Point 13-11 in 10 innings.

UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose now turn their attention to a Wednesday afternoon matchup with Georgia Tech slated for 4 p.m. in Atlanta. Georgia Tech swept Wright State in its season-opening series and travels to Georgia Southern on Tuesday before hosting PC on Wednesday.
