Sanchez Earns Victory in Defeat at Elon

ELON, N.C.. –  Freshman Claudia Sanchez picked up her sixth singles win however Elon earned the 6-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

"It was a challenge this afternoon as Elon is a very solid team. We competed hard and we are close to flipping it and getting some results. I am looking forward to a great, hard week of training and we will be ready for another set of matches."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elon battled to a 7-5 victory in No. 3 doubles before Claudia Sanchez and Lucianna Piedra won their doubles match at No. 2 6-4 to set up a decider at No. 1 doubles.
- The hosts took the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot to jump out to the early 1-0 edge.
- The Phoenix extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
- The hosts pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles before clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
- Elon grabbed a pair of straight-set victories before Sanchez earned a three-set victory to finish the match at 6-1 for the Phoenix.
