Carter, Bracone Lead PC Past Gardner-Webb

Clinton, S.C. – Junior Tionna Carter tied a career-high with 28 points and sophomore Maleia Bracone scored a career-high with 25 points to propel the Presbyterian College women's basketball team past Gardner-Webb 72-58 on Tuesday night in the home finale inside the Templeton Center.  The Blue Hose outscored Gardner-Webb 46-29 in the second half to push them to the victory.

Scoring the Game

- The Blue Hose opened the game scoring the first seven points all coming from Bracone before Gardner-Webb responded with nine unanswered of their own to take the 9-7 lead with 5:53 to play in the first. Carter answered with a quick four points before four in a row by GWU gave them the 13-11 lead in the final minute. Carter and Bracone scored the final five points to give PC the 16-13 lead after one.
- Both teams traded layups before the Runnin' Bulldogs went on a 14-1 run to take a 29-19 lead with 1:57 to play in the first half. PC answered with a 7-0 burst to cut the deficit to three, 29-26 at the break. 
- PC had a quick 4-0 burst to take the 30-29 lead before a 7-2 run from the guests gave them the 36-32 lead with 6:25 to play in the quarter. Gardner-Webb pushed the lead to 10, 43-33 on the heels of a 7-1 run with 4:44 to play. The Blue Hose closed the quarter on a 15-2 run to take the three-point edge at 48-45 going to the fourth quarter. 
- The two teams traded early points before a 7-0 run pushed the Blue Hose lead to 56-49 with 4:30 to play. Gardner-Webb pushed back and cut it to four, 59-55 with 2:42 to play before a 13-3 run from the Blue Hose propelled them to the 72-58 victory on Tuesday night. 


Players of the Game

- Tionna Carter led all scorers as she tied a career-high with 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting as Maleia Bracone added 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Both players led the team with eight rebounds and Bracone had a team-best five assists. Alasia Smith led Gardner-Webb with 13 points as three others added 12 points for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Jhessyka Williams pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Lauren Bevis dished out three assists. 

Stats of the Game
- The Blue Hose posted a 25-of-47 (53.2%) performance from the field and were able to contain Gardner-Webb to 39.7% (23-of-58). PC was 5-of-10 (50%) from deep and held the guests to 4-of-19. The Blue Hose made 17-of-22 at the charity stripe as Gardner-Webb was 8-of-12. The Blue Hose outrebounded Gardner-Webb 34-27. PC had 16 assists compared to seven helpers from the guests. Led by Carter's 28, Presbyterian had a 33-5 edge in bench scoring. 

Notables
- Bracone scored a career-high 25 points for her first career game with 20+ points. The Anderson, S.C. native connected on a career-high nine field goals. 
- She also tied a career-high with five assists. 
- Carter matched a career-high with 28 points a mark in February 2020 against High Point. 
- She matched this mark making a career-high 10 free throws and set a new season-high with nine made field goals. 
- The Norcross, Ga. native tied a season-high with seven defensive rebounds.
- It's the first time since February 3, 2021, against UNC Asheville that two Blue Hose have scored 20+ points in the same game. Jade Compton (27) and Nyah Willis (21)
accomplished the feat last season.
- With her 28 points, Carter moves into 10th place in the Blue Hose DI career record book with 770 points. 
- Carter is also tied for sixth in the DI single-game record book with her 28 points.
