Women's Tennis Set for Back-to-Back Matches

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team hits the courts once again for back-to-back matches this weekend beginning on Saturday at noon against Davidson at the Templeton Tennis Courts. The weekend wraps up on Sunday at 10 a.m. when PC travels to face Georgia Southern.

COACH ROBERTS ON WEEKEND MATCHES
" We have another big weekend. Excited for the opportunities against Davidson at home and then Georgia southern on the road. The team has trained extremely hard this week and they are ready to go this weekend."

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Davidson comes into play on Saturday with a 4-2 record as the Wildcats have won their last three matches against Appalachian State, Richmond and West Virginia State.
- Kavya Patel leads Davidson in singles with a 5-1 record, while Mira Gladstone and Emma Heiderscheit each have totaled four wins this season.
- Gladstone paired with Elizabeth Truluck lead Davidson in doubles with a 3-1 record.
- Davidson has won the prior two meetings with Presbyterian in the DI era including a 7-0 win last spring in Davidson. Saturday's match marks the first time the Blue Hose and Wildcats face off in Clinton.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Georgia Southern comes into the weekend match with a 4-4 record following a 4-0 sweep of Mercer on Thursday.
- The Eagles have already face four ITA ranked team this season in FIU, UNF, UCF and Clemson.
- In dual season, the Eagles are led by Silvia Martinez at 5-3 as Paula Hijos is 4-4 on the year for GSU.
- Hannah Daniel and Sophie Wagemaker lead the way in doubles with a 3-2 record with Elizabeth Goines and Sonja Keranen at 3-3.
- Georgia Southern has won the prior seven meetings in the DI era between the Blue Hose and Eagles including a 6-1 win in Statesboro during the 2020 season.

SANCHEZ EARNS BIG SOUTH HONORS
-Presbyterian College freshman Claudia Sanchez was named the Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, Feb.14-21, the league announced on Wednesday. 
- It's the second time this month Sanchez has earned freshman of the week honors and is the third weekly award that the team has earned with senior Jessica Leeman netting Player of the Week honors earlier this season as well.
- It's the first time since 2017 that a Blue Hose player has totaled multiple freshman of the week's in the same season as Beth Taylor earned that honor in that year. was honored by the league in March. 
 
PRESEASON POLL
- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team was selected fourth by the league's coaches in the Big South Preseason Poll, as was announced earlier this week.
- The fourth-place selection marks the highest ever preseason ranking the Blue Hose have earned in their time in the Big South surpassing the fifth-place selection during the 2019 preseason.
- Charleston Southern received eight first-place votes and 80 total points as the Buccaneers were tabbed to win the league. Radford earned a first-place vote and earned 62 points. Campbell totaled 57 points and finished in third place with PC earning 56 points and finishing in fourth in the preseason poll. UNC Asheville was selected fifth with 49 points, while Gardner-Webb slid in sixth place with 47 points. Longwood was chosen seventh in the preseason poll with 27 points, with N.C. A&T (15 points) in eighth and Hampton rounded out the field with 12 points in ninth place.

- Following Sunday's trip to Statesboro, the Blue Hose will travel to Charleston on March 2 for a rescheduled match with the College of Charleston set for 1:30 p.m.
