Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short Against Hampton

Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team rallied down the stretch with a 17-7 run over the final six minutes, but the comeback bid fell short as the Blue Hose fell to Hampton 56-53 on Tuesday night at the Templeton Center. Sophomore Maleia Bracone led the offense with a career-high 19 points in the setback.

Scoring the Game
- Hampton got out to an early 5-4 lead before an 11-0 run gave the Pirates the 16-4 lead with 5:14 to play in the opening quarter. PC used a 5-1 run to cut it to a 17-9 game before a late layup gave the guests a 19-9 lead after one. 
- The Pirates opened the second on a 5-1 run to extend the lead to 24-10 with 6:42 to play in the first half. PC converted with a Madden three followed by a Compton jumper to cut it to a 24-15 game with 3:11 to play in the half. Hampton closed on a 5-3 spurt to push it to a 29-18 halftime score as Madden buried another three in the final two minutes.
- PC began the third quarter on an 8-4 run to cut the Pirates lead to seven at 33-26 with 6:21 to play in the quarter. The guests responded with an 8-4 run of their own to close the stanza and give Hampton an 11-point lead at 41-30 after 30 minutes.  
- The Blue Hose started the fourth quarter with back-to-back threes to cut the Pirates lead to seven after Jasmine Stevens connected on a three at 8:20. Hampton responded with a quick 5-0 spurt to make it 48-36 with 6:36 to play in the fourth. The Blue Hose used a 7-0 run over the next two and half minutes to cut it to a five-point game at 48-43 with 4:29. The guests used a 5-2 burst over the next minute to push it to a 53-45 game with 3:36 to play in regulation. Bracone and Madden had a three and layup respectively to cut it to a 53-50 game with 2:34. PC whittled down to two with 22 seconds left but was unable to get any closer as the Pirates took it 56-53. 

Players of the Game
- Maleia Bracone led the Blue Hose with a career-high 19 points as she went 8-of-15 from the field and made three from beyond the arc. Jade Compton added 13 points in the contest. Tionna Carter and Compton each led the team with seven rebounds apiece. Bracone and LeMesha Madden had a team-best three assists. Nylah Young led Hampton with 19 points as Victoria Mason chipped in with 16 points. Alexis Wooden and Young each had five rebounds to lead the Pirates. Shawn Mills and Amyah Reaves each had a team-high three helpers. 

Stats of the Game
- Presbyterian posted a 45.7% (21-of-46) while holding Hampton to 43.4% from the field (23-of-53). PC connected on six threes while holding the guests to just three from beyond the arc. Hampton made 7-of-16 at the foul line as the Blue Hose were five of seven at the charity stripe. PC outrebounded Hampton 29-27. Hampton outscored Presbyterian in the paint at 32-26. The Pirates had seven steals compared to five from the Blue Hose. 

Notables
- Bracone scored a career-high 19 points as she connected on a career-best eight made field goals on Tuesday night.
- LeMesha Madden was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field including two from beyond the arc as the Dallas, Texas native recorded a career-high eight points in a career-high 34 minutes. 
- Freshman Jo Raflo recorded her second career game with two blocks as she had a pair of blocks earlier this season against Furman. 
- With her four offensive rebounds, fifth-year senior Jade Compton moved into second in the Blue Hose DI record book for offensive rebounds with 195 in her time at PC. 
- Tionna Carter tied a career-high and set a season-high for steals with a team-best three.

- The Blue Hose continues the busy stretch with a home-and-home against N.C. A&T beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Greensboro. The same two teams will meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Clinton.
