Blue Hose Hit the Road to Open Big South Play

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team looks to open Big South play with back-to-back matches coming against Hampton on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and N.C. A&T on Sunday at 11 a.m.. This will be the Blue Hose second attempt at opening league play after Thursday's match was postponed due to weather in Clinton.

MATCHUP: Presbyterian (2-9, 0-0 Big South) at N.C. A&T (0-6, 0-3 Big South)
TIME: Sunday March 13, 11 a.m.
LOCATION: Dudley High School (Greensboro, N.C.)

COACH ROBERTS ON LEAGUE OPENING MATCHES
"Really looking forward to getting into conference play and opening against Hampton & N.C. A&T. The team is very excited to get into this new part of our season. They have been working extremely hard and are hungry to start getting some results."

SCOUTING THE PIRATES
- Hampton sits at 0-5 as the Pirates battle Norfolk State on Friday before welcoming in the Blue Hose on Saturday to Hampton.
- The Pirates have competed in three league matches thus far against Radford, Gardner-Webb, Campbell and Charleston So.
- PC defeated the Pirates in the last meeting between the two schools in 2019 by the score of 4-0 in Clinton.
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
- N.C. A&T enters Sunday's match winless in six matches with three of those coming in league play against CSU, Radford and UNC Asheville.
- In the Aggies last match their No. 1 doubles pair earned a 6-0 win against Lenoir-Rhyne pair. N.C. A&T's No. 2 and 4 singles players earned wins in the 5-2 setback.
- Cielo Tapia-Cruz grabbed a three-set win in the Aggies matchup with Asheville.
- PC has defeat the Aggies in all seven of its prior meetings including a 7-0 victory in January of 2019 the last time these two schools faced off.

SANCHEZ EARNS BIG SOUTH HONORS
-Presbyterian College freshman Claudia Sanchez was named the Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, Feb.14-21, the league announced on Wednesday. 
- It's the second time this month Sanchez has earned freshman of the week honors and is the third weekly award that the team has earned with senior Jessica Leeman netting Player of the Week honors earlier this season as well.
- It's the first time since 2017 that a Blue Hose player has totaled multiple freshman of the week's in the same season as Beth Taylor earned that honor in that year. was honored by the league in March. 
 
PRESEASON POLL
- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team was selected fourth by the league's coaches in the Big South Preseason Poll, as was announced earlier this week.
- The fourth-place selection marks the highest ever preseason ranking the Blue Hose have earned in their time in the Big South surpassing the fifth-place selection during the 2019 preseason.
- Charleston Southern received eight first-place votes and 80 total points as the Buccaneers were tabbed to win the league. Radford earned a first-place vote and earned 62 points. Campbell totaled 57 points and finished in third place with PC earning 56 points and finishing in fourth in the preseason poll. UNC Asheville was selected fifth with 49 points, while Gardner-Webb slid in sixth place with 47 points. Longwood was chosen seventh in the preseason poll with 27 points, with N.C. A&T (15 points) in eighth and Hampton rounded out the field with 12 points in ninth place.

- The Blue Hose look to return home on March 19 at 1 p.m. against Radford in a match that will serve as their home conference opener in Clinton.
