Blue Hose Earn Second Straight League Victory

Greensboro, N.C.. –  The Presbyterian College women's tennis team continued its strong opening to league play on Sunday with a 7-0 shutout over N.C. A&T in Greensboro.

"Great win for the team. Really good weekend and it feels good to be 2-0 in conference. The girls stayed very focus today and worked through a few things which was great to see. We will get a couple days off and then start preparing for Radford at home."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose got out to a quick start with a 6-2 win at No.1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the victory. PC also won at No. 3 doubles since the Aggies didn't have a third pairing.
- PC got out to the 2-0 lead with a forfeit at No.6 singles.
- Beth Lacey gave the Blue Hose a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles before freshman Claudia Sanchez clinched the match at No.2 singles.
- Jessica Leeman pushed the PC lead to 5-0 at No. 1 singles before Lucianna Piedra won a third set tiebreak to make it 6-0.
- Valentina De Sousa finished off the shutout at No. 5 singles in straight sets.
 
NOTES
- It marks the second straight year that the Blue Hose have opened league play 2-0 as PC began last season 4-0 in league action.
- With her back-to-back Big South singles wins, Leeman moved to fourth in the Blue Hose DI record book for career conference wins at 11.
- Lacey moved into a tie for seventh on the same list with seven career conference singles wins.
- Sanchez and Lacey both lead the Blue Hose on the year with seven singles wins.
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose return to Clinton for a 1 p.m. matchup against Radford on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
