CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College softball team will make a trip above the border for its first true road games of the season, and first away games of conference play, as they head to Campbell for a three-game series. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, March 26 starting at 1pm, followed by the series finale on Sunday, March 27 at 1pm.
Presbyterian completed a sweep over Hampton last weekend, their first conference series sweep since 2012. Game one was a 3-2 win in which PC overcame an early 2-0 deficit to go on to win. Game two was much easier for the Blue Hose, collecting a 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings. In game three, Presbyterian took a 3-0 lead after two innings, but Hampton came back to lead 8-4 in the 4
th. PC rallied behind a
Bailey Watkins homerun and scored three in the 6
th to complete the sweep of the Pirates. The Blue Hose racked up 34 hits over the series, the most in a three-game span this season, and hit .400 for the 8
th time this year.
PC is now 5-1 in Big South play which leads the conference. Their .333 batting average is 12
th in the country and also leads the league as
Jillian Hewes,
Kaitlyn Tucker, and
Jaiden Tweed are all in the top 10 individually in the conference.
Lath Freeman is tied for the league-lead in doubles with nine, and
Morgan Hess is in second place with eight. Through two conference series, Tweed has a .500 average which is a league-best, and Hess is tops in the conference with three homeruns.
Jenna Greene and
Morgan Hess are the mainstay in the circle for Presbyterian, but
Haley Haselden did collect her first win of the year as she came on in relief in game three against the Pirates and pitched three scoreless innings while striking out five. Greene and Hess each have nine wins which is tied for second in the Big South. They are the only duo in the conference to each have 90 or more strikeouts, Hess with 91 and Greene with 104. Hess leads the league in ERA at 1.19 and Greene is 4
th-best with a 1.78 ERA.
Campbell is 14-10 on the year and 3-3 in the Big South after two weekends of play. They fell on Tuesday, March 22 in a hard fought battle with NC State, 2-0. The Camels have been streaky this season going on runs of wins and losses, most recently losing three of their last four. Delaney McDilda and Tyra Parker lead the team in batting with a .333 and .320, respectively. The pitching is mainly paired by Georgeanna Barefoot and Isabella Smith who have seven and five wins, respectively. Kayla Smith has come on in six appearances with a 1-2 record. rd in the Big South.
