Baseball Uses Six-Run Third to Earn Series Opening Win over Asheville

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team pounded out a season-high 15 hits and scored six times in the third to take down UNC Asheville 10-1 in Big South action on Friday night at the PC Baseball Complex. Jay Wetherington totaled four RBIs and Brody Fahr led the offense with four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- UNC Asheville opened the scoring in the third with an RBI single to jump out to the early 1-0 lead.
- Wetherington got the Blue Hose on the board with a two-run homer before a Dalton Reeves RBI double made it 3-1.
- Jeremiah Boyd kept the line moving in the third with a sac fly before an RBI double from Jack Gorman pushed it to 5-1. The six-run frame was capped with an RBI single from Sean Klein.
- Wetherington kept the offense going in the fifth with a two-run single to push it to 8-1. 
- Boyd drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to make it 9-1 for the Blue Hose.
- Joel Dragoo connected on a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth to push the PC lead to 10-1 en route to the series-opening victory. 
 
NOTABLES
- Fahr led the Blue Hose with his 10th multi-hit game of the season as he tallied a career-high four hits on Friday night. 
- He has reached base safely in 18 consecutive games with his four-hit performance.
- Fahr is hitting .500 (13-of-26) over the first seven Big South games leading the Blue Hose offensive attack. 
- Gorman and Wetherington each added two hits to the Blue Hose season-high 15.
- Wetherington also tied a career-high with four RBIs as he tallied his first homer of the 2022 season. 
- Dragoo's eighth-inning homer was his first career long ball. It's the second time in as many games that PC has recorded a pinch-hit homer as Reeves hit one on Tuesday in Presbyterian's 9-6 win at South Carolina.
- Charlie McDaniel tossed six innings allowing just one earned run and tallying seven strikeouts to earn his second win of the season. McDaniel finished one off of his career-high for strikeouts in Friday's win. 
- Logan Ymker matched his season-high with three strikeouts in two scoreless frames. 
- PC improved to 7-2 when outhitting its opponents this season.
