Blue Hose Clinch Series with 4-3 Victory over Asheville

CLINTON, S.C. – Behind three early runs, the Presbyterian College baseball team withstood a late charge from UNC Asheville to earn the series win on Saturday by the score of 4-3 at the PC Baseball Complex. Duncan Howard tossed 5.1 innings allowing one earned run and totaling seven strikeouts for his fourth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Eric Toth opened the scoring for PC with a two-run single in the third to take the early 2-0 lead. Jeremiah Boyd added an RBI single in the frame to push the lead to 3-0.
- In the sixth, Asheville got on the board with an RBI single to cut the Blue Hose lead to 3-1.
- The Bulldogs added two in the eighth with the tying run cut down as Kyle Decker threw a laser from right field to get Presbyterian out of the frame.
- Luke Matthews worked around a leadoff walk with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth to earn his first save of the season as the Blue Hose earned the series win on Saturday afternoon.
 
NOTABLES
- Toth tallied his fourth multi-RBI contest of the season to lead the Blue Hose offense with his two-run single in the third inning.
- Brody Fahr pushed his hit streak to nine consecutive games with his third inning single. Fahr has also reached base safely in 19 straight games.
- Sophomore Duncan Howard improved to 4-2 on the season with 5.1 innings allowing one earned run and striking out seven Bulldogs.
- Howard has had at least six strikeouts in six consecutive starts.
- Decker tallied his 22nd career stolen bases to move him into a three-way tie for sixth in the Blue Hose DI Career Record Book for stolen bases.
