Presbyterian picked up a 5-2 win over Big South Conference foe UNC Asheville at the Templeton Tennis Courts this past Wednesday. The Blue Hose captured the doubles points with wins on courts one and two. Singles victories by McKinney,
Max Benson,
Javier Matos, and
Georgije Babic led Presbyterian to the league win.
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
Presbyterian has now had five players garner Big South weekly honors this season. Last week,
Dusan Milanovic was named Big South Freshman of the Week for the fourth time (January 19, March 2, March 16, and March 23). Matos captured the Big South Player of the Week accolades for the first time in his career on March 16. Benson was named Big South Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career on February 16.
Sebastian Dominguez (January 19) and Babic (February 2) garnered league player of the week honors this season for the first time in their careers.
BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Dominguez, Matos, and Milanovic are tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins apiece. Benson has collected nine wins. Babic has recorded seven wins. McKinney, who has won two straight matches, has seven wins this season.
Teo Cariov has won six of his last eight matches.
Pedro Cardoso has recorded four singles wins.
The doubles tandem of Benson and Milanovic, who have been nationally ranked this season, have won 11 straight matches to lead the Blue Hose with 14 wins on court one.
SCOUTING LONGWOOD LANCERS
The Lancers have won three of their last four matches. Yoav Weinberg, Ernest Rocabert, and Guillermo Cagigas have recorded a team-leading eight wins apiece. The doubles team of Cagigas and Rocabert have won a team-leading six matches.
Presbyterian has won eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams including eight straight wins. The Blue Hose defeated Longwood, 4-3, on the road in their last meeting, April 2, 2021. Dominguez, Matos, and McKinney collected singles wins in that match.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE PANTHERS
The Panthers have won four of their last five matches. Georgia State is currently ranked 69
th in the ITA Rankings. Georgia State's doubles team of Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds is ranked No. 78 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings.
Georgia State won the last meeting between the two teams in Atlanta, 6-1, on March 26, 2021.
