Blue Hose Travel to Longwood for Big South Conference Series

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose play the Longwood Lancers on the road in a Big South Conference series this weekend, April 15-16. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 1 p.m. This series features two teams near the top of the Big South Conference standings. Longwood is currently in second place and Presbyterian is in third place in the standings just one game back of the Lancers.

LAST TIME OUT
Presbyterian swept a three-game Big South Conference series at home against Gardner-Webb last weekend, April 9-10. Jillian Hewes paced the Blue Hose at the plate with a .625 batting average with five hits and two doubles in the series. Lath Freeman finished the series with nine RBIs including a school-record seven RBIs in the final game of the series. As a team, the Blue Hose hit .398 while scoring 24 runs. All three Blue Hose pitchers (Jenna Greene, Haley Haselden, and Morgan Hess) recorded wins in the circle for Presbyterian in the series.

BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Presbyterian is 11-4 in league play this season, only two games behind league-leader USC Upstate (13-2). The 11 wins is a new school record for Big South Conference wins in a season.
 
The Blue Hose are first in the Big South and 13th in the nation in hitting with a team average of .325. They are second in the Big South and 10th in the nation in pitching with a 1.80 ERA. PC ranks second in the league with a fielding percentage of .968.
 
Kaitlyn Tucker is second in the Big South with a .386 batting average. Layna Johnson (.380 average) and Hewes (.355 average) rank among the top ten hitters in the Big South. Hess leads the Blue Hose with eight home runs and 30 RBIs. Freeman is second on the team with 27 RBIs.

Greene and Hess lead the Blue Hose in the circle with 13 and 10 wins, respectively. Those numbers rank them third and fifth in the conference. Hess leads the team and ranks third in the league with a 1.47 ERA. Greene is fourth in the league with a 1.62 ERA. Greene is second in the conference in opponent batting average, holding hitters to a .174 clip.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD LANCERS
The Lancers enter the weekend series having won 11 straight Big South Conference games. Longwood is third in the Big South Conference with a .267 team batting average and they rank sixth in the league with a 3.44 team ERA.
 
Jaden Pone leads Longwood with a .350 batting average. Alexis Wayland is second on the team with a .316 batting average while recording a team-leading 26 RBIs. In the circle, Sydney Backstrom has recorded 13 wins with a team-leading 2.07 ERA.
