CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team used two dominating starts from sophomores Charlie McDaniel and Duncan Howard to earn a doubleheader sweep of James Madison on Saturday at the PC Baseball Complex. McDaniel tossed six shutout innings in game one as PC earned a 5-2 win before Howard pitched seven scoreless en route to a 3-1 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- Ryan Ouzts got PC on the board in the second with a two-run homer to push the Blue Hose to a 2-0 lead after two.
- Neither team scored again until the seventh when James Madison took advantage of a Blue Hose error to cut it to a 2-1 game.
- Ouzts added an RBI double before a two-run single from Joel Dragoo pushed the home team's lead to 5-1.
- The Dukes added a run in the eighth but got no closer as PC earned the 5-2 win in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- Jeremiah Boyd got the Blue Hose out to an early 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Similar to game one, in the middle innings both teams were held scoreless on Saturday until the seventh when the Blue Hose successfully converted a suicide squeeze that allowed Dragoo to score off the Decker bunt.
- PC added an RBI double from Jack Gorman to make it 3-0.
- James Madison tallied its lone run in the ninth via a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 before Tanner Smith recorded his first collegiate save in the Blue Hose 3-1 win.
NOTABLES
- McDaniel opened the day in game one allowing four hits and striking out four en route to his sixth victory of the season. The Sanford, Fla. native needed just 82 pitches over six innings to earn the win.
- Clark Dearman picked up his fourth save of the season tossing the final three innings of game one. Dearman is tied with Eric Toth for the team lead with four saves.
- In game two, Howard continued his strong 2022 season scattering six hits over seven innings with four strikeouts and 83 pitches to earn his team-high seventh win of the
season.
- With his win on Saturday, Howard has tied the DI single-season record for wins with seven. He is just the third pitcher in the DI history of PC to record seven wins in a season.
- In game one, Ouzts connected on his third homer of the season and totaled a team-high three RBIs. It was his third multi-hit game of the season and his second game with a season-high three RBIs.
- Toth tallied his 16th multi-hit game of the season with two hits in game one.
- Jay Wetherington led the offense in game two with three hits as Gorman added two hits.
- Toth has reached base safely now in 21 games in a row following Saturday's doubleheader.
- Saturday marked the second doubleheader sweep of the season for the Blue Hose after taking two from Manhattan earlier this season.
