SPARTANBURG, S.C. - In a game that went down to the final seconds, the Presbyterian College Blue Hose (2-9, BSC: 0-3) came up short with a 13-12 loss to the Wofford Terriers (3-7, BSC: 1-2) on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Presbyterian started the game strong by scoring five of the first six goals. With 13:57 on the clock,
Kylie Sullivan put the ball into the net for the game's first score. Then,
Ana Boothe scored just 29 seconds later giving the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead. Wofford cut Presbyterian's lead in half two and a half minutes later. Goals by
Willow Hammond at 10:52,
Madison Berg at 9:49 off an assist by Hammond, and
Abby Edmisten at 7:58 pushed the Blue Hose in front 5-1. Wofford scored with 6:29 on the clock. Boothe scored her second goal of the game with 4:15 left in the first quarter. Wofford scored the final two goals of the first quarter cutting Presbyterian's lead to 6-4 going into the second quarter.
Just 37 seconds into the second quarter,
Gillian Craig scored pushing the Blue Hose in front 7-4. Wofford scored off a free position shot. With 9:52 on the clock,
Ava Ward scored a goal off a free position shot. Berg scored her second goal of the game with 6:34 on the clock. Wofford scored two of the first half's final three goals. Sandwiched between the Terriers' two goals was a goal by Presbyterian's
Nya Bettis off a Boothe assist with 1:08 on the clock. The Blue Hose took a 10-7 halftime lead.
Wofford scored the first four goals of the third quarter taking an 11-10 lead. With 1:49 on the clock, Ward scored her second goal of the game off an Edmisten assist tying the score at 11 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Terriers scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter. With 2:56 on the clock, Ward scored her third goal of the game off a free position shot cutting Wofford's lead to 13-12. With six seconds on the clock, Presbyterian's free position shot that would have tied the score was stopped by Wofford's goalkeeper.
