Blue Hose Fall in Tightly Contested Home Match to Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C... –  The Presbyterian College women's tennis team battled in its home regular season finale but came up just short to Gardner-Webb as the guests recorded a 4-3 victory over the Blue Hose on Wednesday at the Templeton Tennis Courts. Senior Jessica Leeman tied the program record for career wins in conference with 14.

"It was a tough match today. Gardner Webb has a solid team and just keeps playing tough points. The team competed hard and just fell a little short. We are ready to finish the regular season strong tomorrow against Asheville."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gardner-Webb got out to a fast start at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 win before Claudia Sanchez and Jessica Leeman took down the Runnin' Bulldogs top pair to set up the decisive point at No. 3.
- The guests clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win to take the early 1-0 lead.
- Leeman quickly evened the score at one with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles before Gardner-Webb jumped back in front at No. 1 singles.
- Beth Lacey pushed the match back even at two with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles.
- The guests regained the lead at No. 6 singles before weather delayed the match.
- After a brief rain shower, Gardner-Webb took the No. 3 singles match to earn the victory.
- Lucianna Piedra won her third set to push it to a 4-3 final on Wednesday afternoon.
 
NOTES
- Leeman tied the DI program record for conference wins with her 14th career victory in league play.
- Lacey tallied her team-high 12th singles win in straight sets. All 12 of her wins have been in straight-sets.

UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose wrap up the regular season on Thursday when PC heads to UNC Asheville for a 2 p.m. first serve with the Bulldogs.
