Wednesday Night Affair with ETSU Awaits Blue Hose Women’s Soccer

CLINTON, S.C. – Prepping for their second Southern Conference foe in the early stages of the 2022 season, the Presbyterian College women's soccer squad continues their home-heavy nonconference slate on Wednesday evening at Martin Stadium, playing host to the Buccaneers of ETSU at 7:00. Both sides will be searching for their first win of the fall in the penultimate meeting of August for the Blue Hose.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 24
WHERE: Edens Field at Martin Stadium
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
RECORDS: Presbyterian (0-2), ETSU (0-1-1)

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Led by third-year head coach Jay Yelton, the Buccaneers venture to Clinton for only the second time after back-to-back matchups in Johnson City, Tenn. nine years apart. Exiting 2021's meeting with a 1-0 victory last season in the opener after scoring in the fifth minute of the contest, the Buccaneers progressed into a 7-6-3 overall record, with five of those seven wins occurring away from home.

Offense has been served up in high order for ETSU throughout their first two bouts of the fall, although their previous meeting was relatively one-sided. Beginning '22 on a 2-2 stalemate versus Gardner-Webb, the Bucs stumbled into their five-match road swing with a 4-0 shutout loss to Liberty, now averaging 16 shots allowed per game.

Reeling off 24 shots in two outings compared to PC's 21, ETSU has gathered 11 saves in the infant stages of the campaign behind preseason all-league keeper Shu Ohba, predicted to finish seventh in the 10-team SoCon by the league's coaches. Since joining the NCAA's Division I ranks, the Blue Hose have garnered 15 wins against Southern Conference opponents, but are winless in three tries when going head-to-head with their Volunteer State adversary.

LAST TIME OUT:
Nearly scooping up a tight win on Sunday afternoon in their last appearance on their home turf, Presbyterian struck first against Davidson but couldn't hold on to the early second-half advantage in a 2-1 setback. Only taking two minutes to secure their first goal of the year once the teams had emerged from the mid-match break, Kori Lawrence's 12th career score couldn't grant PC the win across a back-and-forth contest.
