Men’s Tennis Picked First in Preseason Big South Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team, who captured Big South Conference Tournament titles in 2017 and 2021, were picked to finish first by the league's coaches in the Big South Preseason Poll, as announced on Tuesday.

The Blue Hose have reached the Big South Conference Tournament Championship match five times in the program's history while capturing two tournament titles.

"The preseason poll is reflective of the strong play from our guys this fall," said Presbyterian Coach John Collins, who is in his third season at the helm of the Blue Hose men's tennis program. "I am proud of them for all their hard work. We have a lot of respect for the teams in the Big South Conference. We have to be ready to play each time we step on this court this spring."

The doubles team of Max Benson and Dusan Milanovic enter the spring ranked No. 22 in the ITA Doubles Rankings after a highly successful fall which included reaching the semifinals of the ITA Carolina Regional and the consolation draw finals at the ITA Fall National Championships, which earned the doubles tandem the highest ranking in the program's history. Milanovic enters the spring ranked No. 63 in the ITA Singles rankings after reaching the finals of the ITA Carolina Regional and the round of 16 at the ITA Fall National Championships.

This fall in singles play, Sebastian Dominguez and Teo Cariov tallied eight wins apiece. In the first dual match of the season a win over Newberry on October 16, Javier Matos collected a win at number three singles and teamed with Dominguez for a victory at number one doubles. Daniel Martens recorded singles and doubles wins in the victory over Newberry. Pedro Cardoso collected the match-clinching victory at number four singles in the win over Newberry. David Mamalat and Austin Skoog posted singles wins in the UNCG Fall Invitational and the Big South Invitational.

Presbyterian begins its 2022 season this Saturday, January 14 at 1 p.m. against Big East foe Georgetown at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
