Women's Basketball Drops Road Decision at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Freshman Aubrie Kierscht led the offense with 16 points as she connected on four threes, but the Presbyterian College women's basketball team suffered a 59-51 defeat on Saturday afternoon to Winthrop at the Winthrop Coliseum.

Scoring the Game
- Winthrop connected on the opening triple of the game before Bryanna Brady took care of the offense with five straight points in the next 90 seconds to take a 5-3 lead with 7:32 to play in the quarter. Winthrop pushed across the next four points before a Tilda Sjökvist triple pushed PC back in front at 8-6. Both teams traded threes before an Eagles jumped and tied the game at 11 with 4:01 to play in the first. Christina Kline connected on a pair of threes in the final minutes of the quarter, which were sandwiched around an 8-0 run from the hosts to make it 19-17 Winthrop after one. 
 - The Eagles pushed to a 22-17 lead in the opening minute of the second quarter before an 8-0 PC burst gave them a 25-22 lead with 5:56 to play in the half. The hosts responded in a big way with an 8-0 run to take a 30-25 lead with 3:50 to play in the half. Presbyterian closed the opening 20 minutes with a 9-3 burst to take a 34-33 lead to the half. 
- The two teams traded layups to begin the second half before a three from Winthrop made it 38-36 with 6:15 to play in the quarter. Kierscht scored back-to-back jumpers around an Eagles layup to tie it at 40 with 4:50 to play in the third. In a low-scoring quarter, the final four minutes featured just five points, with the hosts scoring four as the Eagles took a 44-41 lead to the final frame on Saturday.
- After the Eagles scored the opening points of the fourth, PC used a 6-2 burst to cut the Eagles' lead to one, 48-47, with 4:11 to play. The hosts answered with an 11-1 run down the stretch before a late three from Kierscht gave the final on Saturday of 59-51. 
 
Players of the Game
- Kierscht led the Blue Hose with 16 points as she connected on four threes and added three rebounds and four steals in the contest. Nuria Cunill added a team-high seven rebounds and nine points off the bench. Christina Kline led the Blue Hose with four assists on Saturday afternoon. Jada Ryce led the Eagles with 17 points and eight rebounds as Leonor Paisana added 13 points, and Shamyjha Price tallied 11 points for Winthrop. Ryce and Paige Powell led the way on the glass with eight apiece. Price dished out a team-high three helpers for the hosts. 
 
Stats of the Game
- PC shot 34% (18-of-53) from the field, as Winthrop shot 37.3% (19-of-51) from the floor. PC connected on eight triples compared to seven by the Eagles. Both teams shot 58.3% at the foul line, with the hosts doubling up in attempts at 14-of-24 compared to 7-of-12 from the Blue Hose. Winthrop won the rebounding battle on Saturday by nine, 41-32, which included 12 offensive rebounds compared to eight by PC. PC tallied 11 assists compared to nine by the Eagles. Winthrop forced 21 turnovers, with 17 of those coming via the steal. PC had the 15-9 advantage on bench points. 

Notables

- Kierscht tallied her ninth double-figure scoring output of the season with a team-high 16 points as she connected on four threes in the defeat. 
- She also tallied a career-high four steals in the contest on Saturday.
- With their eight threes in the contest, PC has tallied seven or more threes in eight games this conference season.
