Brady's Double-Double Pushes PC Past Bucs

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brady led the Presbyterian College women's basketball team with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Hose defeated Charleston Southern 66-58 inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Brady tallied her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds to propel PC to a third consecutive league victory.

"Proud of our team for getting our conference first road win. We need to do a better job of handling pressure. Charleston Southern did a good job of getting us out of rhythm. But we executed down the stretch and had some huge offensive rebounds to help seal the win."
 
Scoring the Game
- The Blue Hose came out of the gates fast with the game's first five points from Brady and Mara Neira to get the guests out to an early 5-0 lead. CSU used a 9-3 run over the next four minutes to jump back in front by one, 9-8, with 4:25 to play in the opening frame. PC had a quick answer with five straight points to push back in front 13-9 with 2:46 to play. Charleston Southern scored the quarter's final five points to get a 14-13 lead after one frame.
- CSU got an early layup in the second quarter before the Blue Hose answered with a 10-2 burst over the next two-plus minutes to make it a 23-18 lead with six minutes to go in the half. The Bucs quickly cut into that lead before an 8-0 burst highlighted by a Neira and Christina Kline three-pointer gave the Blue Hose a 31-20 lead with 3:53 to play in half. The hosts battled down the stretch with 10 of the final 14 points in the half to make it a 35-30 lead for the Blue Hose at the intermission. 
- The two teams were held scoreless over the first three minutes before a Kline jumper gave PC the 37-30 advantage with 7:03 to play, leading to a Bucs timeout. The Blue Hose were able to push it to a 44-34 lead over the next three minutes before Charleston Southern pressured the guests and took advantage with a 6-0 run to cut it to a 44-40 score with 2:13 to play. PC used a 5-0 run of its own to take a 49-40 lead before a late basket made it 49-42 after three.
- The Bucs quickly cut the deficit to six, 51-45, with 8:50 to go before a 7-2 run from Neira pushed the Blue Hose to a 58-47 lead with 5:54 to play and forced CSU to use a timeout. The Bucs had a quick four points to cut the deficit to seven, 58-51, before the two teams traded a pair of points as the Bucs made it 60-53 with 2:05 to play. Charleston Southern would get no closer on Saturday as the Blue Hose connected on their free throws down the stretch en route to the 66-58 victory over the host Bucs. 
 
Players of the Game
 - Brady led the Blue Hose with 18 points as she connected on 7-of-16 field goals and made four free throws on Saturday. Neira added 15 points making three from beyond the arc, and Kline added 13 points making 5-of-7 field goals. Brady led the way on the glass with 11 rebounds, giving her the fifth-year senior's second double-double of the year. Tilda Sjökvist led the way for PC with six assists in the victory. Catherine Alben paced the Bucs with 25 points, going 11-of-22, and three triples, as Kennedi Jackson added 11 points for CSU. Madison Adamson led the Bucs with 11 rebounds on Saturday afternoon. Alben also led the Bucs with four assists and five steals. 
 
Stats of the Game
 - The Blue Hose shot 39.7% (23-of-58) from the floor and limited CSU to 35.9% (23-of-64) on Saturday afternoon. PC connected on seven threes compared to just six from the hosts. The Blue Hose went 13-of-17 at the line, while the Bucs shot 6-of-9 at the charity stripe. The guests won the rebounding battle by 11, 45-34, led by 16 offensive rebounds for PC. Presbyterian dished out 13 assists compared to 10 from CSU as the Bucs bench outscored the Blue Hose 27-15 in the contest. CSU recorded 13 steals compared to five from the Blue Hose as both teams capitalized with 16 second-chance points. 
 
Notables
Brady led the way on Saturday with her eighth double-figure scoring game of the season scoring a team-high 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
- She's scored 15+ points in three of the Blue Hose first four league games and two of those contests have resulted in 10+ rebounds as well.
- Saturday marked the fourth double-double of the season by a Blue Hose as both Brady now has a team-high two while Sjökvist and Núria Cunill have one each thus far in the 2022-23 season.
- Neira added 15 points including three triples on Saturday for her second straight double-figure scoring performance of the year. She also tied the team-high with two steals.
- Kline matched her career-high with 13 points going an efficient 5-of-7 from the floor including 3-of-5 from deep.
- The Winter Garden, Fla. native finished one off of her career-high with six rebounds.
- Sjökvist tallied a new career-high with eight rebounds on Saturday highlighted by seven on the defensive glass. The Huskvarna, Sweden native dished out six assists in the victory.
- PC pulled down 45 rebounds in the contest marking a top mark for the Blue Hose in league play this season.
 
Up Next
 - The Blue Hose are back in action on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. start against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs. The matchup with the Runnin' Bulldogs will be shown on ESPN+ Wednesday.
