CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team will put a button on head coach
Brian Purcell's 35
th season with the program on Wednesday night, welcoming the Lancers of Longwood for a 6:00 PM start. Representing the 16
th and final outing of the fall, the '23 finale will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Going into the season's curtain call at Martin Stadium, the Blue Hose sit in a tie for sixth place in the Big South standings (a two-spot jump over an eighth-place ending last October), going head-to-head with a Longwood visitor who still has aspirations on making the four-team league tournament.
Since taking back-to-back victories over Gardner-Webb and Winthrop five days apart – results that ended in a zero on the board for PC's foe – coach Purcell's club posted a 1-1 deadlock with Charleston Southern in their last home matchup before falling to USC Upstate over the weekend in a 4-0 decision.
Tomorrow's Clinton contest will be the last for PC's five seniors, having been formally recognized on Senior Night back in September.
Mackenzie Azuero,
Caitlin Murphy,
Mia Prieto,
Reyna Coston, and
Kali Zmistowski will wrap up their collegiate careers by competing on their home turf for the 30
th time.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Lining up a 1-1 tie when these two squads last squared off with each other, the Blue Hose will look to slow down a Longwood opponent that has been more profitable away from their comfort zone in Farmville. Four of the Lancers' five wins this year have occurred when playing the visiting role.
- Seven of Longwood's nine road features have resulted in the opposition scoring one goal or less, including three shutouts and a 2-1 triumph in Rock Hill against Winthrop on Saturday.
- Head coach Todd Dyer's unit has earned the distinction of being the only school in the Big South that has defeated USC Upstate, downing the Spartans on the 14
th by a 2-0 clip. Longwood has accounted for a minimum of one score in each of their last six appearances.
- The Virginians have enjoyed a favorable past against Presbyterian, falling to the Blue Hose once since joining the division in 2012 (an overtime affair four years ago in Clinton).
LAST TIME OUT
- In that aforementioned draw during 2022's bout with Longwood, PC provided the equalizer in the 59
th minute after taking the first blow in the opening half. Current senior
Reyna Coston guided in the assist to then-senior
Kori Lawrence, taking place just before the Blue Hose closed the year with two straight W's versus High Point and UNC Asheville.
- Although last weekend's trip to Upstate didn't go the way that Purcell's squad had hoped, Presby's future remains bright with many significant contributors in their college youth. Sophomores
Sloan Spees and Lina-Marie Müller have combined for 20 points out of the team's 31 since August.
- Approaching the final trial of the year, Spees ranks fourth in the Big South with five connections. Meanwhile, Müller places third among all conference competitors by sending in six assists after sitting out an injury-riddled freshman stint.
