PC Falls to UNC Asheville

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose volleyball team (8-14, BSC: 6-5) lost to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (7-18, BSC: 1-10) 3-1 (11-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday, October 28 in Templeton Center.
 
How it Happened vs UNC Asheville
A pair of kills in the start of the first set from Kasey Battle helped Presbyterian take a 4-2 lead. Battle recorded another kill before the score was 6-5 with PC still leading. Jordan McAda and Kinsey Bailey recorded their first kills of the match which put the Blue Hose up by four with a score of 9-5. After some back and forth PC went on a three-point streak led by a kill from Julia Yurkovich to put the score at 14-9. UNC Asheville was able to score two more points before the Blue Hose scored the last 10 consecutive points, behind a solo block from McAda, two kills from Rowe, and a service ace by Courtney Aulbaugh, which ended the first set 25-11.
 
The second set started out tied at four-points apiece before Presbyterian went up by three-points with a score of 10-7 after three kills by Rowe. After some back and forth the Bulldogs scored four straight points to take a one-point lead at a score of 13-12. PC was able to tie it up, but UNC Asheville took the next three-points to make the score 16-13. The Blue Hose were able to even out the score at 19 apiece after winning six of the next nine points behind kills from Bailey and Rowe, along with blocks by Grocholski, McAda, and two from Courtney Williams. Presbyterian was able to score two more points, but ultimately UNC Asheville won set two with a score of 25-21.
 
The Bulldogs won the first four-points in the third set. Back to back kills from Ashley Miller brings the Bulldogs lead down to two-points at a score of 5-3. After some back and forth, the Blue Hose won six of the next nine points to bring UNC Asheville's lead down to just one-point, 12-11. The Bulldogs took the next two-points, but Presbyterian answered with a 6-3 run to tie the score at 17 points apiece. PC scored four more points behind a kill and a service ace from Rowe, but the Bulldogs rallied to win set three 25-21.
 
UNC Asheville scored the first-point of set four before the Blue Hose scored three straight points with kills from Rowe and Grocholski followed by an assisted block by Yurkovich and Grocholski. UNC Asheville took the lead from PC 7-5, but not long after, a kill from Yurkovich tied it back up at seven-points each. The Bulldogs scored the next three-points before Presbyterian closed back in making the score 11-10 with UNC Ashevilles in the lead. The Bulldogs brought their lead up to four-points when Battle recorded back to back kills making it a two-point set in the Bulldogs favor with a score of 16-14. Grocholski was able to record two more kills and Elyse Hutchinson took one as well, but UNC Asheville won the fourth set 25-17.
