Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (6-10, BSC: 4-1) lost to Winthrop (5-11, BSC: 4-1) 3-2 after a five-set match (23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 21-25, 9-15).

How it Happened vs. Winthrop
In the first set Winthrop started out strong with a six-point run, but two service aces from Kinsey Bailey and a seven-kill run led by Courtney Williams, who recorded three in a row, brought Winthrop's lead down to one with a score of 15-14. After being tied at 16 apiece, the Eagles pulled ahead and kept the lead for the remainder of the match. Winthrop took set one 25-23.

Winthrop started off the second set with five straight points, but kills behind Ashley Miller, Jordan McAda, Hannah Rowe, Kasey Battle, and Williams, put the score at nine apiece. After a tie at 11 the Blue Hose went on a five-point run after kills from Hailey Grocholski, McAda, and back-to-back service aces from Sophia Del Valle. Presbyterian takes a six-point lead after kills from Battle, Rowe, Grocholski, and Williams and extend the score to 20-14. After a lot of back and forth the Blue Hose took the set 25-20.

The third set started off even, but after a tie at four apiece, the Eagles took the next four points going ahead 8-4. Winthrop was able to extend their lead even further making the score 14-8. The Blue Hose fought to close in on the Eagles lead while scoring eight of the next 12 points bringing the score to 18-17. Not long after, PC takes a five-point run behind a kill from Miller which puts them in front 24-22. Winthrop fights to stay alive but a service ace from Anna Baranski ends the set at 27-25.

Both teams start off strong in the fourth set, but Winthrop pulls ahead after a five-point rally, giving them the lead 10-7. The Eagles extend their lead 18-12 where they are able to hold their lead for some time. Some Winthrop errors and a kill from Battle puts PC down by just three, 23-20, but Winthrop will secure the set sending the match to a fifth set.

After a nail-biting match both teams enter set five with a winning mentality. The score was very back and forth after Rowe and Bailey recorded service aces. Kills from Battle, Williams, and Bailey keep the set tied at a score of 6 apiece. At this point Winthrop pulled ahead and held PC to only a few more points allowing the Eagles to take the fifth set with a score of 15-9.
