Blue Hose Sends Eight to Mountaineer Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – Taking an early-season trip to the site of the Southern Conference Championships four months from now, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team submitted eight names to the Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday afternoon – a five-team layout hosted by SoCon powerhouse Appalachian State.

Alongside ASU, Air Force, Gardner-Webb, and Virginia, the Blue Hose would return to the mats after beginning the 2023-24 season on the first day of November, a losing effort versus #3 NC State on an active military installation from Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Their first action in 10 days, Presby witnessed a 4th-place nod in class 184 from sophomore Caleb Roe over the weekend. Additionally, Ryan Luna (133) picked up the first W of his second year with the program in the consolation side of the bracket.

Luna achieved that victory in dominant fashion, a 15-0 technical fall against G-W's Tyler Lamon. The Californian was inches away from both of his defeats tilting in the other direction, falling to App State and Air Force opponents by a combined margin of three points.

Roe – who assembled five personal wins as a freshman while fighting through injury – moved past the Mountaineers' Tomas Brooker in his second bout of the day, ultimately dropping the bronze medal dual versus ASU's Joe Zovistoski.

Eli Holiday, Brandon Jacoby, Michael Ramirez, Reed Douglass, George Hopkins, and Morvens Saint Jean added to Presbyterian's party at the Saturday tournament, one of only two occasions all season where the team will compete outside of standard dual fare.
