Second Half Offensive Explosion Leads Blue Hose Past UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – Behind four double-figure scorers and a second half 53 points offensive explosion, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (4-0) remain undefeated after the 81-69 road win at the North Florida Osprey (2-2) on Thursday evening.
 
For the first time since the 2006-07 season and the first time in Presbyterian's Division I era, the Blue Hose have started the season, 4-0.
 
Junior guard Jamahri Harvey recorded his first 20-point scoring game of his PC career with 21 points with 15 of those coming in the second half while also grabbing eight rebounds. Junior guard Samage Teel recorded his third straight double-figure scoring game with 18 points while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists. Junior guard Marquis Barnett recorded his third straight double-digit scoring game with 11 points all in the second half. Senior Trevon Reddish-Rhone rounded out the Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 11 points while also dishing out a team-high four assists.
 
Presbyterian trailed UNF, 34-28, at the half. The Blue Hose outscored the Osprey, 53-35, in the second half to improve to 4-0 on the season.  
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF – Harvey scored the game's first two points.  Over the first seven minutes, the lead exchanged hands several times with several ties until PC went on a 5-0 scoring run taking a 12-9 lead after two free throws from Harvey with 12:46 on the clock. With PC leading 14-12, UNF scored six straight points taking the first half lead for good, 18-14, at the 9:44 mark. With 4:47 left in the half, North Florida had their largest lead 27-18, the Blue Hose outscored UNF, 10-7, over the rest of the half cutting the Ospreys' halftime lead to 34-28.
 
SECOND HALF – UNF connected on two free throws pushing their lead to eight points to start the second half scoring. A three from Harvey began the Blue Hose's 12-0 scoring run giving PC a 40-36 lead at the 17:24 mark, Kaleb Scott, Teel, and Barnett also scored during the run. The Osprey scored four straight points tying the score at 40 at the 15-minute mark. Behind the scoring of Harvey, Reddish-Rhone, and Barnett the Blue Hose regained the lead for good after an 8-0 run putting PC in front, 48-40, with 13 minutes on the clock. North Florida cut Presbyterian's lead to five points at the 12:39 mark but that would be close as the Osprey would get to the Blue Hose. After a putback from Barnett at the 6:09 mark, the Blue Hose enjoyed their largest lead of the game, 63-48. Presbyterian again closed out the game with timely free throw shooting down the stretch as the Blue Hose scored 12 of their final 14 points at the charity stripe.
 

NOTES
  • Presbyterian's 53 points second half scoring output marked the second time this season that the Blue Hose have scored at least 53 points in a half. PC scored 59 second half points in the win over CIU.
  • The Blue Hose defense limited UNF to 31.4 percent shooting from the field (22-for-70) and 28.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc (11-for-39). Presbyterian's defense has not allowed a team to shoot over 40 percent from the field this season.
  • Presbyterian finished the game shooting 80 percent (24-for-30) from the free throw line.
  • The Blue Hose finished the game with a 34-12 advantage on points in the paint and a 24-4 advantage on fast break points.
  • Presbyterian enjoyed a 46-36 rebound advantage. Senior guard Kobe Stewart paced the Blue Hose with nine rebounds. Harvey grabbed eight boards, Teel, Reddish-Rhone and junior forward Jonah Pierce grabbed six boards apiece.
  • Presbyterian had seven blocked shots led by Barnett's three blocks.
