Blue Hose Beat Morehead State Behind Big Second Quarter Run

COACH SHARP'S THOUGHTS
"I think today's win is awesome for our program. It's been a long week after playing three games with a quick turnaround for today's game. So many things went right, and so many things went wrong, but our body language, our consistency, our stick with it never changed. That is something that is such growth for our team."

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Morehead jumped to a 9-2 lead within the first three minutes of play. Mara Neira scored the teams first three-point bucket, but the Eagles answered with an eight-point run. With less than a minute left in the first quarter Morehead was winning 23-10. Tilda Sjökvist and Christina Kline both hit three-point shots to close in on the Eagles before the end of the quarter with a score of 23-16.

Second Quarter – Presbyterian kept their streak going in the second quarter where they took the first eight-points behind three-point shots from Sjökvist and Neira followed by a basket in the paint from Núria Cunill. Presbyterian's 14-point run gave them a 24-23 lead with 8:00 to go in the first half. After some back and forth and two more lead changes, PC scored seven straight points to go up by seven-points with a score of 35-28. Morehead was able to cut the Blue Hose lead down to four-points, but seven-points from Sjökvist and a three-point buzzer beater by Ashley Carrillo ended the first half with a score of 45-33.

Third Quarter – The Eagles came out with a quick four-points, but Neira answered with a three-point jumper. Morehead scored another three-point shot, but four-points behind Sjökvist and Bryanna Brady kept PC's lead at 12-points with a score of 52-40. With five minutes left, Morehead scored the last seven-points of the third quarter to cut Presbyterian's lead down to five-points with a score of 52-47.

Fourth Quarter – The final quarter of the game started off with both teams matching each other's shots until the Eagles hit a three-pointer to make the score 59-55 with PC leading by four-points. Brady sank two free throws before Morehead scored four more points to take Presbyterian's lead down to just two-points with under two minutes of play left. The Blue Hose stayed strong on defense, not allowing the Eagles anymore points, and ultimately took the win with a final score of 65-59.
