How it Happened at High Point
Presbyterian started out the first set leading 5-2 after an assisted block by
Hailey Grocholski and
Kasey Battle along with kills from
Julia Yurkovich and Battle. High Point was able to tie it up at five apiece, but the Blue Hose took the lead once again after a 4-1 run led by kills from
Jordan McAda and Battle, this brought the score to 9-6.
Kinsey Bailey and Grocholski added kills to Presbyterian efforts, but the Panthers were able to keep the first set tied at 13 points apiece. The set stayed tied at 15 points each after Grocholski and Battle both recorded another kill. The Blue Hose were then able to go on a six-point run behind some great serves from Bailey, where she put down three service aces along with kills from McAda and Yurkovich. These efforts by PC gave them a six-point lead with a score of 21-15. After some back and forth High Point closed in on Presbyterian, but it wasn't enough to stop the Blue Hose from beating High Point in the first set with a score of 25-23. This was a big deal for Presbyterian because it was the first set that the Panthers had lost in almost two months, after they had won their last 36 sets.
High Point started out the second set with a 6-0 lead, until Presbyterian scored four-points of their own with a service ace from
Anna Baranski and kills from
Hannah Rowe and Grocholski. Grocholski was able to grab another kill, but High Point scored nine more points to make the score 16-5. PC scored four-points with two kills from
Courtney Williams, and one from both Rowe and Grocholski, but High Point matched them which made the score 20-10. The Blue Hose were able to score three more points led by Grocholski's solo block and kill, but High Point ended the second set with a score of 25-13.
Presbyterian scored the first two-points of the third set before High Point took the next six-points.
Elyse Hutchinson recorded her first two kills of the match, but the Panthers outscored PC 6-4 which gave them a 12-6 lead. After a few more points from the Panthers, Presbyterian took three-points in a row with two assisted blocks by Grocholski followed by a kill from Williams. High Point won the next seven-points which made the score 22-10. After each team scored two more points the score was 24-12, and game point for the Panthers. The Blue Hose fought back and scored the next four consecutive points behind a kill from Williams and back to back service aces by Baranski. Ultimately High Point won the third set 25-16.
The fourth set started out even with a score of 5-5 after an assisted block from Grocholski and
Ashley Miller, along with two kills from Rowe and one from Bailey. The Panthers then went on an 8-3 point run even though Battle recorded two kills. High Point brought their lead to eight after outscoring PC 5-2, which put the score at 18-10. After some back and forth PC went on a four-point streak with a service ace from
Sophia Del Valle and a kill from Battle. Rowe grabbed her final kill of the match and Bailey took one more service ace before High Point won the fourth set 25-20.
