PC Takes Their Sixth Consecutive Win After Beating SC State

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (8-3) took victory over the South Carolina State Bulldogs (1-11) with a score of 63-52. Three double-figure scorers led PC to their sixth consecutive win.

The Blue Hose's six game win streak ties the program's record for most consecutive wins in a season. The last time this happened was during the 2012-13 season.

COACH SHARP'S THOUGHTS
"SC State played a great game, our team really responded at halftime. Usually our assist total shows you how our offensive end is going. We had three assists at halftime, but had nine in the second half and I think that shows that we came out of the locker room really well."

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Presbyterian scored the first five points of the game, led by a three-point play by Bryanna Brady, before the Lady Bulldogs took their first basket. SC State hit a three before the media timeout to tie the game at five points apiece. After a scoreless minute PC scored the next five points behind a three-point shot from Tilda Sjokvist. The Bulldogs took the last three points of the first quarter, but the Blue Hose held a 10-8 lead.

Second Quarter – South Carolina State quickly took their first lead of the game after scoring the first 12 points of the second quarter before a putback layup by Christina Kline ended the Bulldog's streak. Mara Neira grabbed a steal which led to a fast break layup to make the score 20-16 with SC State leading. This play shifted the momentum of the game, leading to PC going on a 10-point run led by four from Brady. After a scoreless two minutes, the Lady Bulldogs scored two points off of free throws, but Neira drilled a three-point shot to end the first half with a one-point lead, 23-22.

Third Quarter – Neira set the pace for Presbyterian by starting off the second half with a three-point bucket. SC State then scored 10 of the next 11 points, which gave them a 32-27 lead. Kline made a pullup jumper in the paint to add two to PC total, but the Bulldogs answered with five more points. The Blue Hose scored seven of the next nine points before heading to the media timeout with a score of 39-37. A layup by Brady evened the score at 39 points apiece. Neira then made two free throws to take the lead back. Brady drew a foul to set up a three-point play followed by a layup from Carrillo. PC led by eight points after three quarters with a score of 47-39.

Fourth Quarter – After a steal from Laney Scoggins, Brady scored the first basket of the fourth quarter. SC State answered with a layup of their own. Sjokvist hit a three-pointer assisted by Scoggins, followed by another layup from Sjokvist. The Lady Bulldogs took six of the next eight points to make the score 56-48 with PC still holding the lead. Sjokvist took a driving layup to put the Blue Hose up by 10 points. With two minutes of play to go, Neira sank another three-point jumper followed by a second chance layup by Brady. The Bulldogs put in one more, but ultimately Presbyterian walked away with a 63-52 victory.
