Presbyterian Comes Up Short At Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (7-6) lost to the Furman Paladins (6-6), 76-61, on the road on Tuesday evening.

Junior guard Marquis Barnett paced the Blue Hose with 14 points. Junior forward Jonah Pierce scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF –  Furman scored six of the first eight points. Then, Jamahri Harvey connected on a three cutting Furman's lead to one point, 6-5. With Furman leading 7-5, PC scored four straight points behind baskets from Barnett and Kory Mincy taking a 9-7 lead four and a half minutes into the game. The Paladins tied the score at nine, then, baskets from Barnett and Kaleb Scott pushed the Blue Hose back in front, 13-9. Furman went on a 7-0 run taking a 16-13 lead at the 10:21 mark. Teel scored in the lane ending the Paladins' scoring run and getting the Blue Hose back within one point. Presbyterian after three free throws by Teel would tie the score at 18 at the 9:22 mark. Furman scored eight straight points to retake the first half lead for good. Presbyterian would get within four points a couple of times the last time was when Trevon Reddish-Rhone scored inside with 2:29 on the clock cutting Furman's lead to 30-26. Furman scored the final seven points of the half taking a 37-26 halftime lead.
 

SECOND HALF 
– Furman scored 12 of the first 17 points of the half taking a 49-31 lead with 15 minutes on the clock. The Paladins maintained a lead of 15-20 points for the majority of the rest of the game. The closest that the Blue Hose would get was 12 points, 73-61, after a three from Crosby James with just over a minute left in the game.
 
NOTES
  • Barnett's 14 points marked his 10th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 29th of his career.
  • Pierce collected his sixth double-digit scoring game of the season with his 11 points.
  • PC recorded 40 points in the paint and 30 points off the bench.
 
NEXT GAME
The Blue Hose travel to ACC foe Wake Forest for their final game before Christmas this Thursday, December 21 at 3 p.m.
