Six Blue Hose Double-Figure Scorers Pace PC to Road Win at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va.  – Behind six double-figure scorers, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (6-3) defeated the VMI Keydets (2-7), 75-71, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
 
Senior guard Trevon Reddish-Rhone paced the Blue Hose with 14 points (shot 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc) and seven rebounds. Junior guard Marquis Barnett chipped in with 13 points. Junior forward Jonah Pierce scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior guard Samage Teel scored 11 points while connecting on three three-point field goals. Senior guard Kobe Stewart scored 10 points (shot 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc). Freshman guard Kory Mincy also scored 10 points while knocking down two of his three three-point field goal attempts.
 
Presbyterian connected on 10 three-point field goals in the game. The Blue Hose scored 20 fast break points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Barnett scored the game's first two points. VMI scored five straight points taking a 5-2 lead. After a free throw from Pierce and a three from Teel the Blue Hose regained the lead, 6-5, at the 17:51 mark. Then, VMI scored eight straight points regaining the lead. With 12:12 left in the half, VMI had their largest lead of the half, 17-8.  The Blue Hose got back to within two points after five straight points from Teel and a jumper from Mincy cut VMI's lead to 17-15 with 10:51 on the clock. A layup from Reddish-Rhone tied the score at 20 with eight and a half minutes on the clock. VMI scored five straight points regaining the lead. With VMI leading 32-27 with 3:20 on the clock, the Blue Hose ended the half on a 9-0 scoring run taking a 36-32 halftime lead after a three from the top of the key from Teel with five seconds on the clock.
 

SECOND HALF 
– VMI scored nine of the first 14 points of the half taking a 43-41 lead with 16:34 on the clock. Reddish-Rhone connected on two free throws tying the score at 43. Then, VMI scored seven straight points taking a 50-43 lead at the 14:45 mark. The Blue Hose responded with a 10-0 run after three points from Reddish-Rhone, five points from Mincy, and a fast break layup by Stewart giving the Blue Hose a 53-50 lead with ten minutes left in the game. VMI answered by outscoring the Blue Hose 12-1 over the next four minutes taking a 62-54 lead. A three from the corner by Stewart began the Blue Hose rally. PC scored 17 of the next 20 points taking a 71-65 lead after a three from the top of the key by Reddish-Rhone with 1:52 on the clock. Stewart, Reddish-Rhone, Barnett, and Pierce scored during PC's game-deciding scoring run. Presbyterian closed out the road win with timely free throw shooting from Reddish-Rhone, Barnett, and Carl Parrish over the final forty seconds.  
 

NOTES
  • Reddish-Rhone collected his third double-figure scoring game of the season and the 33rd of his career with his team-high 14 points.
  • Barnett's 13 points marked his seventh double-figure scoring game of the season and the 26th of his career.
  • Teel recorded his eighth straight double-digit scoring game with his 11-point performance.
  • Pierce recorded his fourth overall and third straight double-digit scoring game with 11 points.
  • Stewart's 10 points marked his 12th double-figure scoring game of his career.
  • Mincy's 10-point performance was his second double-digit scoring game of the season.
  • Presbyterian's 20 fast break points were the second most fast break points that the Blue Hose has scored in a game this season.
