Late Offense Pushes EKU Past Blue Hose in Series Opener

RICHMOND, KY. – Eastern Kentucky scored four runs over the final three innings to push the host Colonels past the Presbyterian College baseball team 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Earle Combs Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- The Blue Hose got on the board first in the second with a double steal that allowed Joel Dragoo to scamper home from third and give PC the early edge.
- EKU got on the scoreboard in the sixth with an RBI single to tie the game at one.
- Eastern Kentucky took its first lead of the afternoon in the seventh with a two-run homer to push it to a 3-1 lead after seven innings.
- The Colonels added a solo homer in the eighth to push it to a 4-1 lead.
- Following a leadoff double from Dragoo, Chase Hughes connected on a sacrifice fly that cut the deficit to 4-2 but the Colonels held on in the ninth to secure the 4-2 win over the Blue Hose.
 
NOTABLES
- With his fourth inning single, junior Jack Gorman has now reached base safely in all 14 games to begin the 2023 season with hits in 12 of those contests.
- Gorman continues his strong offensive showing on the week as he's hitting .667 (8-of-12) with three doubles and three RBIs throughout the first three games of the week for the Blue Hose.
- Fahr has now reached safely in 11 straight games as the junior drew a pair of walks in Friday's action.
- Friday's starter Duncan Howard tallied a season-high six strikeouts while tossing 6.1 innings for PC.
- Senior Tanner Smith finished one off of matching his best strikeout performance with PC as he tallied a season-high three strikeouts over the 1.2 innings of work he was tasked with pitching on Friday afternoon.

- The two teams wrap up the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. from Earle Combs Stadium at Eastern Kentucky.
