Baseball Opens Home Big South Slate with 6-3 Victory

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team opened its home Big South slate on Friday with a decisive 6-3 victory over Charleston Southern at the PC Baseball Complex. Brody Fahr and Chase Hughes each tallied a triple to help propel the PC offense past the Bucs.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Ryan Ouzts got the Blue Hose to an early advantage in the opening frame with an RBI single through the left side.
- CSU answered with an RBI single in the second to even the game at one.
- PC had an answer for the Bucs in the bottom of the second as the Blue Hose took advantage of a Bucs error before an RBI triple from Hughes increased it to a 3-2 score after two innings.
- Charleston Southern inched closer in the third with a solo home run to cut the Blue Hose advantage to one, 3-2 in the early going.
- In the sixth, Jake Randolph increased the Blue Hose lead to 5-2 with a two-run single to right. 
- CSU cut it back to a two with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh that made it 5-3.
- Dragoo pushed it back to a three-run game in the eighth with an RBI double as PC secured the series-opening win by the score of 6-3. 
  
NOTABLES
- Ouzts along with Hughes each led the offense on Friday with two hits apiece for their fourth and second multi-hit game respectively.
- Trey Fenderson's base knock to open the festivities increased his reached base streak to 15 in a row and his hit streak to five straight ball games.
- The Blue Hose tallied their sixth win of the season when scoring first and also improved to 3-1 when scoring in the opening inning on Friday.
- The triples from Brody Fahr and Hughes are the first multi-triple game for PC since May 21, 2021, when PC recorded two at Winthrop.
- With his fourth save on the season, the reigning Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Tanner Smith moved into a tie for fifth in the single-season PC DI record book for saves. With his next save, Smith takes sole possession of fifth place.
- With the win on Friday, Duncan Howard moves into a tie for fifth with teammate Charlie McDaniel for most wins by a PC pitcher in the DI era. Howard has 12 wins in his Blue Hose career.
- PC improves to 4-2 in series openers this season including taking the opener in each Big South series to begin the 2023 campaign.
