Blue Hose Battle Back to Defeat Long Island

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Behind 3-1 in singles on Saturday afternoon, the Presbyterian College women's tennis team battled back for a tight 4-3 victory over Long Island at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte. PC earned wins from Madison Dennett, Valentina De Sousa and McKenzie Davis to complete the comeback over LIU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- LIU opened the match with a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot before a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot to give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead in the match.
- Claudia Sanchez and Lucianna Piedra grabbed a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot after Long Island got the doubles point clinched.
- LIU pushed it to a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory at the No. 2 singles spot before Piedra got PC on the board with a straight-set win at the top spot.
- The Sharks increased the lead to 3-1 before the Blue Hose began the comeback on Saturday afternoon. It was started with Madison Dennett battling back from a set down to make it 3-2 Sharks.
- Valentina De Sousa grabbed a three-set win of her own before McKenzie Davis rallied from down a set to give the Blue Hose a 4-3 victory.
 
NOTABLES
- Piedra grabbed her team-high eight singles win including her sixth win at the top spot in the Blue Hose lineup card.
- Piedra and Sanchez also picked up their seventh doubles win paired together on Saturday.
- The Blue Hose top spot in the lineup improves to 4-2 in the last six matches with Piedra's win on Saturday.
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose flip the calendar to April with their final scheduled road match of the 2023 season on Saturday, April 1 at Longwood with first serve set for 11 a.m. from Farmville.
