CLINTON, S.C. – As the 2023 campaign hits its mark of 20 games for the Presbyterian College softball squad tomorrow evening, again in a very familiar home environment, the Blue Hose and their resilient defense will be paired up with in-state adversary Furman on Tuesday for a nonconference doubleheader, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
A series that dates back to PC's inaugural Division I season in 2008 spanning 32 meetings, the South Carolinian duel will represent the first time on the year that head coach
David Williams' team is matched up with a fellow SC school, victorious in 17 in-state bouts since taking over the program in the spring of 2019.
Despite coming up short in two of their last three encounters, the Blue Hose still maintain a terrific record when playing in Clinton (11-2), largely due to the

Peyton Duncan pitching core that has gathered a 1.27 ERA – still the sixth-lowest figure in all of NCAA and the best average in the country among mid-major programs.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- While not an auspicious start to the season next to a 4-15 overall record, Furman's less-than-desirable first month has been fairly misleading when closely analyzing their previous outings, especially when speaking of the visitors' 10-game losing streak dating back to Feb. 24.
- Across that span of 10 straight setbacks, the Paladins have seen the final margin hover between either one or two runs six times, falling by an average difference of just two runs per contest since the sequence began. Furman was last seen dropping a pair against Campbell in Buies Creek by a combined clip of 14-8, staying on the road for each of their last 12 encounters.
- The fourth-place pick in the preseason SoCon poll next to four all-leaguers, head coach Stacey Johnson-Whitfield's club has scored 30 runs during the aforementioned 10-game slump beside 20 extra-base swings. Emme Buzhardt and Sierra Tufts have been slotted in 11 starts between them at the pitcher's spot as the Furman staff has registered a 4.26 ERA.
LAST TIME OUT
- A three-run spurt in the first frame of the Pinnacle Scotsman Invitational brought the Blue Hose a two-score Game 1 victory over Buffalo until the latter two games turned defensive heavy, resulting in a 1-0 Game 2 defeat to the Bulls and a 5-0 setback at the hands of Queens on Sunday afternoon.
- In two starting nods, Greene – already PC's career-leader in K's with well over 500 – canned 20 batters on just three earned runs given up in 14 innings, continuing a tenacious streak ongoing of nine straight complete games. Sunday's effort gave the senior her 50
th performance since 2020 wherein she never left the circle.
- Still the Big South leader in total shutouts (six), PC's team slugging percentage of .371 sits as the third-highest figure in the league while placing second in the conference with a 3.20 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Should Presbyterian grab at least one win over Furman tomorrow, the 2023 club will become the fastest team to reach 15 W's in program history, beating out the '07 edition by five days.
