Blue Hose Open League Play with Comeback Victory Over Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis fought back on Tuesday from down 3-0 to earn a 4-3 victory over the host Gardner-Webb at the Webb Tennis Complex to begin Big South play.

Unbelievable win. We have such a resilient group of girls and it showed today. All day they just kept fighting and coming back and we were able to walk away with a win. I couldn't be more proud of them
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gardner-Webb opened the match with a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot in doubles before the Blue Hose pair of McKenzie Davis and Madison Dennett earned the 7-5 victory to setup the decisive first point on Tuesday.
- The Runnin' Bulldogs claimed the opening point in a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreak to get the early 1-0 lead over Presbyterian.
- The hosts grabbed straight-set wins at No. 3 and 4 spots to increase the advantage to 3-0 over PC on Tuesday afternoon.
- Claudia Sanchez began the rally for Presbyterian with a three-set win at 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to get the Blue Hose on the scoreboard.
- Lucianna Piedra kept up the momentum with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at the top spot to cut the Runnin' Bulldogs lead to just one.
- Dennett needed tiebreakers in both sets 7-6 (9-7) and 7-6 (11-9) to even the match up at three.
- De Sousa followed the lead of Sanchez and Piedra with a three-set win as PC battled back for the 4-3 win on Tuesday over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
NOTABLES
- The Blue Hose improved to 3-1 under head coach Joel Roberts in Big South openers with the win over Gardner-Webb.
- Piedra grabbed her team-high sixth singles win of the season and also her 10th career Big South singles win which moves her into a tie for sixth in the DI program history.
- Sanchez earned her second straight singles win and her fifth overall of the year.
- Davis earned her team-high seventh doubles victory of the year with her win on Tuesday afternoon.
- The last four results between the two schools have ended in 4-3 scores with each team winning a pair of those matches.

- The Blue Hose return to action on Sunday at noon with a visit from Campbell to the Templeton Tennis Courts.
