Blue Hose Outlast Lancers for Win in Road Regular Season Finale

FARMVILLE, VA. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis was able to outlast Longwood on Thursday afternoon to earn a 4-3 Big South victory in the Blue Hose road regular season finale at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. Sophomore Madison Dennett grabbed win in singles and doubles on Thursday to help pace PC.

" Extremely proud of the team's fight today. It was an absolute battle and extremely hot for the first time all year. They kept coming back and fighting through it until they got the win. Quick turnaround with Radford at home Saturday"
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose got off to a fast start with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles position with the pair of Lucianna Piedra and Madison Dennett grabbing the win. Longwood answered with wins at No. 1 and 3 to grab an early 1-0 lead.
- Valentina De Sousa and Dennett made quick work at No. 5 and 6 in singles play to push PC back in front on Thursday by the score of 2-1.
- The Lancers grabbed a quick straight-set victory at the No.3 spot that evened the match at two setting up a best two-out-of-three finish.
- Claudia Sanchez needed a second-set tiebreak but was able to edge her opponent out before the hosts grabbed a three-set win at the top spot to allow the match to come down to the No.4 spot in the lineup.
- After dropping the opening set, McKenzie Davis battled back with a 7-5, 6-4 finish to help PC clinch the 4-3 win over Longwood.
 
NOTABLES
- Sanchez grabbed her seventh win of the season including her third in league play on Thursday.
- She also moved to a tie for ninth in the DI record book for singles wins in conference matches earning her eighth win in her two-year conference career thus far.
- Piedra grabbed her ninth career doubles win moving into a tie for fourth for league wins in doubles play in PC's DI record book.
- PC earned its fourth straight win in Farmville on Thursday with the 4-3 victory over the Lancers. The Blue Hose are 5-1 all-time against Longwood on the road dating back to 2012.

UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose return home for the final match of the 2023 regular season on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against Radford.
