Dragoo & Reeves Homer in Defeat at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore Joel Dragoo and junior Dalton Reeves connected on back-to-back homers in the ninth inning but the Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to rally past Winthrop as the host Eagles earned the 7-4 series-clinching victory on Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Ballpark.

 HOW IT HAPPENED 
 - Winthrop opened the scoring in the second with an RBI single to get the early advantage on Sunday afternoon.
- The hosts added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to increase the lead to 2-0.
- PC got on the board in the fifth with an RBI double from Joel Dragoo that cut the deficit to one, 2-1 after 4.5 innings.
- The Eagles used an RBI single in the fifth that pushed the hosts' lead to 3-1 after five innings. 
- Winthrop created more separation in the sixth with a sacrifice fly allowing a fourth run to score and push the Eagles lead to 4-1 after six. The hosts were able to push across two more runs in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead.
- The hosts increased the lead to 7-1 with an RBI single in the eighth inning.
- PC looked to mount a rally in the ninth with back-to-back homers to leadoff the ninth from Dalton Reeves and Dragoo before an RBI single from Noah Lebron cut the deficit to 7-4 before the Eagles secured the series victory on Sunday afternoon. 
 
NOTABLES
- The offense was led on Sunday by Dragoo and Reeves as both tallied a double and a homer in the defeat.
- Dragoo now has a team-high six homers just ahead of Reeves who has connected on five home runs this season.
- It's the second time in the last five games that a pair of Blue Hose went back-to-back in the same game as Kyle Merkle and Ryan Ouzts went back-to-back last week against Campbell. 
- With his base hit on Sunday, Fahr has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games which is a team-high among active streaks. Fahr is hitting .380 (19-of-50) with four doubles, a triple, and a homer in that 12-game stretch with 10 runs knocked in. 
- PC has now hit at least one homer in 20 of the teams 37 games including multiple homers in a game seven times.
- The Blue Hose drew 11 walks in Sunday's contest marking the second most in a game during PC's DI era with the 14 walks against Western Michigan earlier this season the only game toping today's total. 
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose return home for the first of five straight at home on Wednesday, April 19 beginning at 6 p.m. against ETSU on ESPN+. The Bucs come into Wednesday's matchup after being swept on the road this weekend against Mercer.
